The journey of the Vietnamese team at the 2023 Asian Cup ended with 3 losses. This is a sad result for Vietnamese football. For the first time in the history of participating in the Asian Cup finals, we could not pass the group stage and did not have a single point.
Talking about the journey of the Vietnamese team in the past, captain Hung Dung said: "The Vietnamese team has not had the desired results in the past 3 matches. We participated in the tournament with a force consisting of many players participating for the first time.
However, for me, regardless of whether the players played or not, the whole team tried their best in every training session, from the first day to the last. Your efforts and dedication deserve recognition. Let us be proud of having given our best to the Fatherland.
Even though we lost, everyone tried their best until the last minute, even when they were short of players. Not every national team can do that. That's something I'm very proud of."
Hung Dung encouraged the young Vietnamese players after the unsuccessful tournament. He added: "I am an older player. This may be the last Asian Cup I can participate in. I am very happy to be with you guys.
Maybe in this tournament, many players are only considered young talents, but from the next training session, no one will call you young players anymore. Because you have had experience in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2023 Asian Cup. In the national team, age has no boundaries. There is no tournament in the national team that has age regulations.
Don't think of yourselves as young players. I hope that in the training camp in March, when the coach calls you up, no one will be considered a young player. We will only have the players in the best form, giving their best to the team. There are no young or old players because we are all one team.
We have all worked hard and trained for the past 8-9 months to prepare for this tournament. There are things we have done and things we have not been able to do but the spirit is really great. No one has been left out of the group. This is a united group and hopefully we can maintain that.
Maybe next time this player will be called up, that player will not be called up but what you have experienced is a good memory. The important thing is that we have the opportunity to continue. One defeat is not a problem.
Tomorrow the sun will rise again and we will go out to the field to practice and compete for what lies ahead. That is the most precious thing. For a player, being able to play football is the most wonderful thing. When we were young, all of us wanted to play for the Vietnam national team. Now, we have done it."
Finally, Hung Dung emphasized that he wants to beat Indonesia in the next match. The Hanoi FC player said: "Now it's time for us to look forward to March. There would be nothing better than if the Vietnamese team could beat Indonesia. I hope so!
The recent defeat is something no one wants. Let's remember and remember why we lost. So that next March, we will be ready to face them again, in front of the cheers of 80,000-90,000 spectators of the opposing team. Let's compete for what we have done, with a stronger spirit."
