One day after round 22 of V-League 2023-2024 ended, the Vietnamese team had its first training session at the VFF Youth Football Training Center, preparing for two matches against the Philippines and Iraq in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
Currently, the Vietnamese team has almost no chance of advancing. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team must win both remaining matches against the Philippines and Iraq, and wait for Indonesia to only get one point in the remaining two matches.

Although it is difficult to squeeze through the narrow door, coach Kim Sang Sik still believes that he and his students will achieve the best results, regaining the trust of fans after the failed reign of coach Troussier.
"Through direct observation of the matches in V-League, I realize that you are players with very good technical and tactical skills and a very strong fighting spirit. I always trust you and hope that the players will also trust me and the coaching staff.
As representatives of the national team, we must always try our best and be determined to win every match. Let's always keep that spirit.
I know you have worked very hard recently. Let's continue to work hard together to win the upcoming matches against the Philippines and Iraq," coach Kim Sang Sik encouraged his players.
Meanwhile, midfielder Do Hung Dung and his teammates are confident that they will have good performances and show positive results under coach Kim Sang Sik.

"Everyone is very excited about this training session. We know that head coach Kim Sang Sik has a lot of experience with top-level football in Asia. The whole team is trying to learn, focus on training and compete to achieve the best results, especially in the upcoming home match against the Philippines.
It's been a long time since the Asian Cup that the team hasn't had the feeling of victory, so we are trying our best to achieve our goals," Hung Dung said.
"Of course the whole team has high expectations for the new coach. Coach Kim has very good results, both in domestic tournaments and in the Asian Cup 1. Coach Kim Sang Sik's experience will help the players develop.
Personally, my team and I, although the chance is small, are determined to win points on the field of the Iraqi team. In the match against the Philippines, the team will aim to win and have a beautiful match to dedicate to the fans," Hung Dung emphasized.
"I think the past is the past and gone. With the people at the present time, the current form, with the general results of Vietnamese football, any style of play that brings victory and joy to the fans is good.
Coach Kim Sang Sik is quite close, perhaps because Vietnam and Korea have similar cultures, so we are closer," Hung Dung concluded.
