Hanoi youth spend millions to take photos of lotus season
Hanoi is famous for its historical sites and natural beauty, but when mentioning the West Lake lotus season, people immediately think of a poetic scene, where each photo contains the cultural beauty and soul of the thousand-year-old capital. This year, the West Lake lotus bloomed early, from mid-May, but most of them are white lotus (Thai lotus), while red lotus has to wait until June to bloom. Hanoi's youth are ready to spend millions on makeup and hire photographers to have beautiful photos with lotus flowers.
West Lake is one of the famous scenic spots in the capital Hanoi, where there are many historical and cultural relics associated with the history of the formation and development of the ancient Thang Long Citadel and Hanoi today. The beauty of West Lake seen from above has the shape of a crab claw with the eastern corner surrounded by Thanh Nien Street - the road separating West Lake and Truc Bach Lake, the rest is surrounded by land. West Lake is not only beautiful because of its immense blue water surface, rippling and undulating all year round, but also has a poetic beauty because of the fragrant pink color of lotus flowers, the purple color of Lagerstroemia flowers or the brilliance of pink phoenix flowers, yellow trumpet flowers every summer.
The space around the lake is always filled with cool breezes in the early morning or at sunset. At the end of May, the lotus flowers at West Lake begin to bloom, which is also the time that attracts a large number of tourists to visit and take photos. Many young people are willing to spend millions on makeup and hire photographers to have beautiful photos with lotus flowers.
Reading information online that the lotus in West Lake has begun to bloom, Ms. Ha Linh and her daughter arranged a trip here to hire a photographer to take a set of souvenir photos. She shared: “As a person living in Hanoi, knowing the beauty of West Lake lotus, I decided to take my daughter to take photos, along with the traditional four-panel dress to teach her more about women in the past. Taking photos of West Lake lotus is not only beautiful but also wants to tell my daughter about the origin of Hanoi's precious lotus that has gone down in history and Vietnamese culture.
Photos of West Lake lotus are not only beautiful memories but also a source of artistic inspiration, contributing to enriching the life and culture of Hanoi. Therefore, it is not surprising that every lotus season, West Lake becomes an attractive destination for those who love and want to explore the art of photography.
As a student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology preparing to study abroad, Thu Thuy, left Hanoi University of Science and Technology dormitory at 4am to West Lake to hire a photographer and makeup artist to take a set of photos of West Lake sparkling in the morning. Thuy shared: "When mentioning West Lake, young people immediately think of West Lake lotus, so I decided to take a set of photos with lotus here as a souvenir of my youth living and studying in Hanoi so that when I go to study abroad, I can introduce it to my international friends."
The owner of the pond and the photographer earn millions every day.
It is undeniable that taking pictures of West Lake lotus brings attractive income to photographers and lotus pond owners. With a large number of customers and high service prices, a photographer can earn from several million to tens of millions of VND per day during lotus season.
Mr. Do Xuan Phuc, owner of the lotus pond on West Lake, said: “My family has been growing lotus here for nearly 20 years. Before, my family mainly grew pink lotus, but in the past 2 years, we have switched to growing white lotus. In addition, we have invested in accessories for guests to take lotus photos. My family has invested a lot in the lotus pond, so for each guest who checks in, we will charge a fee of 50,000 VND/person. During peak season, the lotus pond welcomes about 20 visitors per day, and on busy days, it can welcome about 30 visitors.”
During the lotus season, photographers often start their work early in the morning when the gentle morning sunlight shines, creating the best lighting conditions for sparkling photos. Photographer Dao Huong H said that lotus photography not only requires good technique but also requires sophistication in choosing the shooting angle, moment and way of expressing emotions. Each lotus flower, each lotus leaf has its own beauty and the photographer's task is to make their subject stand out in that beauty in each photo.
Post-production editing also plays an important role in creating perfect photos. Editing software such as Photoshop, Lightroom are used to adjust the light, color and remove unwanted details, making the photo perfect and attractive, only then will customers feel that it is worth the money they spent.
