Cooperatives in Dak Nong create jobs for 10,533 workers

20,000 members are farmers

Dak Nong currently has 310 cooperatives, with nearly 18,500 members and associate members who are farmers. The cooperatives also create jobs for about 10,533 workers.

Of the 239 active cooperatives, 196 are agricultural cooperatives. The majority of cooperatives operating in the agricultural sector have exploited their strengths in the production and trading of coffee, pepper, cocoa, vegetables, fruits, etc., thereby creating jobs for their members.

Cooperatives in Dak Nong are focusing on exploiting advantages in agricultural development.

Mr. Tran Van Phu, Director of Cong Bang Dak Ka Cooperative, Dak R'lap District, said: "Coffee is Dak Nong's advantage. We have provided guidance on techniques for growing and caring for specialty coffee. In addition, the cooperative has invested in machinery to process specialty coffee to increase the value of the product."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan, Director of Thinh Phat Cooperative, Dak Glong District, shared: The Cooperative has gathered more than 201 farmers to participate. Cooperative members have over 800 hectares of coffee, pepper, fruit trees, vegetables, and tubers.

“Previously, farmers in the area mainly grew coffee and pepper. After researching the market and realizing that the land and climate in Quang Son were suitable for growing vegetables such as cabbage, radish, carrots, etc., they organized production. Currently, many farmers and cooperative members have mastered the techniques of producing VietGap vegetables and the products not only serve the domestic market but are also exported.”

Besides agricultural exploitation, Dak Nong has 40 non-agricultural cooperatives operating in the fields of industry, handicrafts, trade, services, construction, transportation, people's credit funds, environmental sanitation, electricity, and markets.

Promote development

Currently, the total charter capital of cooperatives in Dak Nong is over 338,273 million VND. The average charter capital of a cooperative is 1,286 million VND. The average assets of a cooperative are 2,459 million VND.

Cooperatives increasingly focus on investing in developing charter capital and resources to diversify production, product processing and business.

Mr. Vu Van Nghia, Director of Krong No Agricultural Cooperative, Krong No district said: "We have established a cocoa raw material area for investment in processing. In the past 5 years, we have invested in factories and machinery to dry and process cocoa powder and chocolate."

Currently, the province's cooperatives focus on linking production, business and product consumption. Some cooperatives have formed sustainable value chains.

Up to now, Dak Nong has 31 cooperatives with OCOP products and 34 cooperatives participating in the value chain such as: cocoa, coffee, pepper, passion fruit, durian, macadamia, clean vegetables applying high technology, fruit tree growing and processing, livestock and poultry farming, rice...

Mr. Nguyen Khai, Chairman of Dak Nong Cooperative Union, assessed: The level of cooperative management staff is increasing, thereby creating positive changes, creating jobs for many workers, positively affecting the income of member households.

Investment in production and business of cooperatives has created valuable products with provincial characteristics, thereby attracting farmers to become members.

Awareness of cadres and party members about the role of cooperatives in organizing agricultural production, rural development, and new rural construction has changed positively.

Through the development of production and business of cooperatives, the awareness of people in general and members in particular about high-tech agriculture and organic agriculture associated with value chains is increasingly enhanced.

The results achieved show that cooperatives make important contributions to promoting agricultural development, farmers, building new rural areas and advanced new rural areas.

Cooperatives and cooperative groups actively change the structure of livestock and crops. Although Dak Nong Cooperative still has difficulties and limitations, it has gathered a large labor force, especially rural labor, and created positive changes in social development.
