Thanks to the application of science and technology and strict adherence to livestock farming processes, Vu Son Duc Cooperative (Vu Quang, Ha Tinh) has successfully built a sow farm with a revenue of more than 60 billion VND/year.
Vu Son Duc Ecological Agriculture and Service Cooperative currently has 15 sow breeding houses, each house is 7,000m2 wide .
Receiving the transfer of 12.5 hectares of land from households in Huong Giang village, Duc Huong commune, in June 2016, Vu Son Duc Ecological Agriculture and Service Cooperative (abbreviated as Vu Son Duc Cooperative) started to build 15 sow breeding houses, each house is 7,000m2 wide with a total investment of tens of billions of VND.
In early 2017, Vu Son Duc Cooperative imported 40 sows and 14 boars, high-quality breeds from CP Vietnam Joint Stock Company to produce breeding stock. In the following years, the Cooperative continued to import 70 more sows from reputable breeding facilities in other provinces and cities such as Hau Giang and Ho Chi Minh City to diversify breeding stock.
The rearing time at the farm and the weight of pigs sold at the farm of Vu Son Duc Cooperative are divided into 3 types: 7kg, 15kg and 70kg to create optimal choices for customers.
According to Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Nguyen Khac Thu, the 70kg breed is very popular with traders in the Northern provinces, because it only takes 2-3 more months to reach a weight of over 100kg.
To produce healthy, high-quality breeds, the cooperative hires specialized veterinary technicians to assist in caring for the pigs. In addition, the farm is divided into separate areas to create space for the animals to develop well.
During the livestock farming process, the Cooperative pays special attention to environmental treatment to minimize pollutants from waste. Accordingly, the Cooperative has invested nearly 2 billion VND to build 5 settling ponds, biogas tanks, circulating ponds... so the Cooperative's farm area is always well-ventilated, meeting environmental standards.
Cooperative invests in earthworm farm to process pig waste into organic fertilizer
In particular, from June 2022, the Cooperative invested in 2 earthworm farms of 2,000m2 to process pig waste into organic fertilizer. On average, each month, the Cooperative produces 400 tons of odorless organic fertilizer of very good quality.
“Not considering the economic efficiency because the current consumption of this type of fertilizer is not much, but the most important thing is to completely treat the stench of waste; at the same time, it creates a difference compared to conventional livestock farming. Currently, the cooperative's organic fertilizer has been consumed at a number of farms and gardens in Vu Quang district,” Mr. Nguyen Khac Thu added.
Earthworms are raised to treat livestock waste in pig farms.
After investing in each phase with a total capital of up to 60 billion VND, Vu Son Duc Cooperative is increasingly "doing well". Up to now, the cooperative's sow herd has reached 815 pigs, each year each sow gives birth to 2 litters, each litter from 12 - 15 pigs (some sows give birth to 18 pigs/litter) bringing in revenue of 60 - 65 billion VND/year. Annual profit ranges from 10 - 12 billion VND. The cooperative also creates jobs for 40 workers with an average income of 6.5 million VND/person/month.
According to Chairman of Duc Huong Commune People's Committee Pham Quoc Bao, this is one of the farms that brings high economic efficiency thanks to strict compliance with farming processes as well as disease prevention. In particular, the presence of the cooperative also has great social significance in creating regular jobs with stable income for many workers in Duc Huong Commune in particular and Vu Quang District in general.
Vu Son Duc Ecological Agriculture and Service Cooperative is invested in spaciously, ensuring environmental standards.
Evaluating the model of Vu Son Duc Ecological Agriculture and Service Cooperative, Chairman of Vu Quang District Farmers' Association Tran Thi Hong Vung said: "This cooperative is one of the establishments with the largest revenue in Vu Quang district. The success of the cooperative is not only economic but more importantly, it contributes significantly to environmental protection. That is also the goal towards in the current livestock development of the locality".
