Hong Van, Kim Tu Long, Hoang Son reunite in the play "Thang Long Love Story"

For the first time, Hong Van Drama Theater and Kim Tu Long Service and Entertainment Company Limited collaborated to stage the play "Thang Long Love Story". On the evening of the 6th day of Tet, the play was performed at Ben Thanh Theater.

For the first time, three veteran artists of Ho Chi Minh City theater: People's Artist Hong Van, Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long, and artist Hoang Son reunited in a historical play directed by a young director, Hoang Hai.

The play is based on a literary script by the late author Luu Quang Vu, telling the story of Princess Le Ngoc Han, the ninth princess among the daughters of King Le Canh Hung (1740-1786), who was married to the Tay Son hero Nguyen Hue.

This slice of history was written by the author with a new perspective. Through the storytelling of the production team, historical figures were brought to the stage in an effort to promote Vietnamese historical works on today's theaters.

On the evening of the 5th day of Tet, in the dramatization program celebrating the 235th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi and Dong Da victory organized by Ho Chi Minh City, Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long also played the role of Quang Trung Nguyen Hue.

On the evening of the 6th, he continued to transform into the character who had the merit of unifying the country after more than 200 years of division during the Trinh - Nguyen period.

Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long shared that the character Nguyen Hue in the play "Thang Long Love Story" was under more pressure because the character's psychology was tense and compressed with many events.

"What makes me happy and joyful is that this play gives young actors a chance to work. The play also shows a new perspective on the love story of Ngoc Han and Nguyen Hue. From the internal conflicts of the initial love story with political colors, the two later fell in love and complemented each other's strength. From there, Nguyen Hue had more strength to defeat the 290,000 invading Qing troops, maintain national independence, establish the Tay Son dynasty, create a political, diplomatic, and cultural foundation with its own mark" - Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long said about his role.

People's Artist Hong Van said that in the Canh Hung period in 1786, when King Le Hien Tong fell seriously ill, the Le Dynasty fell into a period of decline, with all power in the hands of Lord Trinh. Not accepting the times, the king's daughter - Princess Le Ngoc Han, with her extraordinary intelligence, contributed to finding a way to save the Le Dynasty from decline.

At that time, King Nguyen Nhac from Dang Trong ordered his army to march straight to Thang Long with the slogan "support Le and destroy Trinh". The Tay Son army attacked Thang Long, Lord Trinh went to Ngu Long tower to welcome them but was defeated, Le Nhuong, representing the Le dynasty's military and mandarin class, struggled to protect the capital, an atmosphere of chaos covered Thang Long...

"This musical is a project that we hope will bring the audience many emotions at the beginning of the year when they come to Ben Thanh Theater. Artist Hoang Son shared that author Luu Quang Vu always speaks for the times, the thoughts of each person in life do not impose according to one's own thoughts.

With his keenness and deep understanding of life and current events, with a gentle yet delicate pen, he has conveyed in each play a very natural life as it is, but also very dramatic and fierce. This Vietnamese historical play adds vitality to Luu Quang Vu's plays.

"This is a historical play that after watching, young audiences can clearly understand the past story thanks to the content structure that closely follows history, with some fictional details and characters but not too much, still keeping the flow of history. The musical "Thang Long Love Story" has the participation of more than 70 actors, including a combination of veteran actors from both drama and reformed opera, such as: People's Artist Hong Van (as Princess Ngoc Han's mother), Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long (as the hero - King Nguyen Hue), Meritorious Artist Trinh Trinh (as Admiral Bui Thi Xuan), artist Hoang Son (as Nguyen Nhac), Binh Tinh (as Mai, Princess Ngoc Han's maid), Minh Luan (as Sam), Hieu Hien (as Vuon), Do Xuan Nghia (as Nguyen Huu Chinh), Khoi Nguyen - son of People's Artist Hong Van as Ut Thien...

The role of Princess Ngoc Han belongs to young actress Hoang Yen after a careful selection for the musical.

Sharing more about "Thang Long Love Story", People's Artist Hong Van said "From the "student version" of "Thang Long Love Story" which is the play "Ai tu van - Uan khuc Ngoc Han", we have cooperated with the brand Viet Phuc Hoa Nien with young people who are passionate about learning and want to bring Vietnamese traditional costumes back into life.

This time the requirements were even higher. All the costumes for "Thang Long Love Story" were newly made, both closely following history and ensuring stage aesthetics.
