Post-election protests have left some 27 people dead and more than 2,400 arrested. The Venezuelan government blames the opposition for the deaths, while the opposition accuses the government of waging a campaign of repression.
Alfredo Romero, president of the human rights NGO Foro Penal, wrote on X on Sunday that 86 teenagers arrested during the protests had been released from prison in recent days.
The riots and post-election tensions have attracted international attention.
The Venezuelan government has accused political opponents and “foreign forces” of trying to destabilize the country. President Maduro has asked people to support the government and accused opposition leaders of staging an “attempted coup.”
Venezuela is facing a severe economic crisis with high inflation, shortages of basic goods and weakened health services.
