Over 4.8 billion VND to implement the project to improve community livelihoods through increasing income from non-timber forest products in Bao Thang district

The community forest area in Ban Lot village, Ban Cam commune (Bao Thang district) was selected to implement the project.

This Project Document has just been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Decision No. 1381/QD-BNN-HTQT dated May 21, 2024. Accordingly, the Center for Non-Timber Forest Products Research (Vietnam Forestry Science Institute) is the project owner.

The project aims to contribute to proposing policies to improve livelihoods, reduce poverty and promote the protection of natural forest ecosystems in sustainable forest management for rural communities of the country and localities where the project is implemented.

The short-term objective is to improve the livelihoods of the community in Ban Lot village, Ban Cam commune, Bao Thang district through promoting comprehensive nature-based solutions based on capacity building and applying a replicable community-based non-timber forest product enterprise model in Vietnam.

The short-term goal of the project is to improve the livelihoods of the community in Ban Lot village, Ban Cam commune (Bao Thang).

The project is expected to start in June 2024 with 4 main activities: Capacity building, understanding the current status of non-timber forest products and developing plans, organizing and implementing non-timber forest product business models, sustainable resource management; increasing income through applying appropriate production standards according to market requirements; raising awareness of management, exploitation, use, sustainable development of non-timber forest products and a model of community forests managed, exploited, used and developed sustainable non-timber forest products tested; enhancing knowledge exchange and sharing of experiences on community-based non-timber forest product business models to support livelihood creation based on sustainable forest resource management.

The project will be implemented in 24 months, from 2024 to 2026 (excluding the time for project preparation and settlement) with a total capital of 199,970 USD (over 4.8 billion VND). Of which, non-refundable aid capital is 158,970 USD (over 3.8 billion VND), counterpart capital is 41,000 USD (nearly 1 billion VND). After the project ends, the project results will continue to be used for replication purposes nationwide.
