On the morning of September 13, speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, Mr. Phan Quoc Thanh, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Huong Khe District (Ha Tinh), said that the district is experiencing an epidemic of pink eye, causing 2,342 students at all levels to be recorded as having contracted the disease. The number of students with pink eye is from preschool, primary and secondary schools. Currently, these students are having to stay home from school to receive treatment and prevent the spread of the disease.
Huong Khe District Health Department instructs schools to make a list of students with pink eye.
"We are currently coordinating with the district health sector to guide schools to proactively implement measures to prevent the spread of pink eye. When detecting students with symptoms of pink eye, the school will notify parents to take their children to medical facilities for examination and treatment. We will also have a plan to make up for lost knowledge for students who have to stay home from school while being treated for pink eye," said Mr. Thanh.
Mr. Nguyen Truong Lam, Director of Huong Khe District Medical Center, said that since the beginning of September, there have been more than 5,600 cases of pink eye in 21/21 communes and towns in the district. Of these, more than 2,300 cases are students and teachers at preschool, primary and secondary schools.
In response to the outbreak of pink eye in the area, the Huong Khe District Health Center requested health stations in communes and towns and the district Department of Education and Training to organize propaganda, guidance and monitoring of compliance with disease prevention and control measures. At schools, the health sector also required schools to make a list of infected cases for monitoring and instructing parents to take their children to medical facilities for examination and treatment.
Medical staff propagate and instruct students on how to prevent pink eye.
According to the Center for Disease Control of Ha Tinh province, the pink eye epidemic has spread to almost all localities in the province with thousands of cases. Pink eye has many causes but is mainly caused by viruses (commonly Adenovirus). Infected people should go to medical facilities for examination, consultation and treatment. During treatment at home, patients should self-isolate and avoid contact with others to prevent the spread of the disease.
The Center for Disease Control of Ha Tinh province recommends that to proactively prevent and control pink eye, people should regularly wash their hands with soap, use clean water, do not rub their eyes, nose, mouth; do not share personal items such as eye drops, towels, eyeglasses, masks, etc.
Clean eyes, nose, and throat daily with saline, regular eye drops, and nose drops. Use soap or antiseptics to disinfect the patient's belongings and utensils. Limit contact with people who are sick or suspected of having pink eye.
