Of the total of more than 11.4 million international arrivals to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2024, arrivals by air reached 9.7 million, accounting for 84.7% of the total number of international arrivals to Vietnam and an increase of 41% over the same period last year; by road reached 1.6 million, accounting for 13.8% and an increase of 73.3%; by sea reached 165.6 thousand, accounting for 1.5% and 2.8 times higher than the same period last year.
The representative of the General Statistics Office said that favorable visa policies, enhanced tourism promotion programs, along with prestigious tourism awards presented by international organizations have attracted an increasing number of international visitors to Vietnam.
"The strong growth of tourism has positively contributed to the growth of the trade and service industry since the beginning of the year," the leader of the General Statistics Office emphasized.
According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 8 months of 2024, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices is estimated at VND 4,148.4 trillion, up 8.5% over the same period last year.
Of which, revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first eight months of 2024 is estimated at VND481.2 trillion, accounting for 11.6% of the total and increasing by 14.3% over the same period last year. Revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period last year of some localities is as follows: Quang Ninh increased by 29.1%; Da Nang increased by 23.3%; Thanh Hoa increased by 21.5%; Khanh Hoa increased by 19.1%; Hai Phong increased by 15.1%; Can Tho increased by 11.9%; Hanoi increased by 11.4%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 8.9%; Binh Duong increased by 7.9%.
Tourism revenue in the first 8 months of 2024 is estimated at VND 40.9 trillion, accounting for 1% of the total and increasing by 26.2% over the same period last year. Tourism revenue in the first 8 months of 2024 of some localities is as follows: Ho Chi Minh City increased by 42.2%; Da Nang increased by 38.6%; Can Tho increased by 33.7%; Hanoi increased by 29.7%; Quang Ninh increased by 21.0%; Binh Duong increased by 18.5%.
