More than 135 million tons of cargo passed through seaports in 2 months

The volume of goods passing through seaports in the first two months of the year increased sharply in areas such as Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, and Hai Phong.


According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, in the first two months of 2025, the volume of goods passing through seaports increased.

Accordingly, the volume of goods passing through seaports reached 135.38 million tons (excluding transit goods not handled at ports), an increase of 9% over the same period in 2024.

In the first two months of 2025, cargo throughput through seaports increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2024.

Of which, exports increased slightly by 1%, reaching 31.376 million tons. Imports reached 42.158 million tons, up 8% over the same period in 2024. Domestic goods increased by 15%, reaching 61.333 million tons. Transit goods alone reached 513 thousand tons.

Cargo volume in Teu reached 4.808 million Teu, up 18% over the same period in 2024. Imports increased sharply by 16%, reaching 1.591 million Teu. Exports reached 1.487 million Teu, up 5%. Domestic goods alone increased by 35%, reaching 1.731 million Teu.

The volume of goods passing through seaports by ships and inland waterway vehicles in the first two months of the year also increased by 11% (reaching 98.74 million tons) and 4% (35.3 million tons), respectively.

According to the Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration, the areas with the highest volume of goods passing through seaports in the country include Ho Chi Minh City with an increase of 13.53%, Vung Tau area with an increase of 10%, Quang Ninh with an increase of 1.4%, Hai Phong with an increase of 2.79%, and some other areas with increased volume such as: Hue with an increase of 24.02%, Binh Thuan with an increase of 31%, Can Tho with an increase of 49%, Nghe An with an increase of 14%, Quang Ngai with an increase of 18.54%, Dong Nai with an increase of 4%, and Nha Trang with an increase of 11.6%;

Areas with reduced cargo volume such as Thanh Hoa decreased by 5.45%, Da Nang decreased by 6.18%, other areas such as Ha Tinh, Quy Nhon, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Kien Giang, An Giang also had reduced cargo volume.

For container cargo, the areas with the largest container throughput in the country include: Ho Chi Minh City increased by 7.34%, Vung Tau increased by 18%, Hai Phong increased by 6.86%. Other areas include Quang Nam increased by 30.06%, Da Nang increased by 13%, Dong Nai increased by 7%, Dong Thap increased by 63%, Can Tho increased by 16%.

However, there are still some areas where the volume of goods passing through has decreased, such as: Thanh Hoa decreased by 34.22%, Nghe An decreased by 11%, Quy Nhon decreased by 4.23%.

The total volume of goods passing through seaports in the first 3 months of 2025 is estimated to reach about 206.839 million tons, an increase of 4% over the same period in 2024. Of which, exports are estimated to reach 17.257 million tons, down 1% and imports are estimated to increase by 6%, reaching 65.345 million tons.

Container cargo through seaports in the 3 months is expected to increase by about 11%, reaching 7,454 million TEUs.
