More than 1,200 press works entered the contest "Social policy credit"

NDO - On the morning of December 26, in Hanoi, Banking Times in collaboration with the Bank for Social Policies organized the Closing and Awarding Ceremony of the Writing Contest "Social Policy Credit - Party's Will, People's Heart".


The writing contest "Social Policy Credit - Party's Will, People's Heart" was launched in August 2024, as one of the activities to summarize 10 years of implementing Directive No. 40-CT/TW dated November 22, 2014 of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over social policy credit.

The contest not only honors advanced examples, good practices, and effective models in the management and use of preferential loans; but also aims to motivate and encourage credit institutions in general and the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies in particular in providing credit capital to support the poor and policy beneficiaries to overcome difficulties and rise up.

After more than 3 months of launching (from August 15 to November 30, 2024), the contest has received the response and participation of many journalists and reporters from central and local press agencies.

In addition, there was also the participation of “non-professional writers” who are officers of the Social Policy Bank, officers of associations and organizations, and even borrowers. The organizing committee received more than 1,200 entries in various journalism genres such as reflection, reportage, investigative reportage, memoir, notes, and photo reportage.

After the preliminary round, the jury selected 100 works for the final round. The works that made it to the final round were all carefully invested, demonstrated through reporters going to the local area, especially the border areas, remote islands, and difficult areas.

On that basis, the Jury selected 17 excellent works to award at the Closing Ceremony, including: 1 special prize awarded to the work "Social policy credit - A pillar supporting the "Party's will, the people's heart" by authors Le Hoa - Anh Nguyet - Van Bau; 1 first prize awarded to the work "Sweet" capital in the middle of Bach Long Vi sea" by author Vo Ta Huong Giang; 2 Second prizes; 3 Third prizes and 10 Encouragement prizes.

Ms. Hoang Thanh Nhan, Editor-in-Chief of Banking Times, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the competition, assessed that each work is a vivid picture of examples of overcoming difficulties to escape poverty thanks to the humane capital of the Party and the State; or stories about the silent but proud sacrifices of the officers of the Social Policy Bank, the "pink lotus soldiers" on the front of hunger eradication and poverty reduction. Many works are invested in elaborately, printed in color, and carefully bound; some are even handwritten, many authors have 2-3 works in the competition... showing the authors' dedication to policy credit programs and the hunger eradication and poverty reduction in our country.

According to the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, to date, the total source of social policy credit has reached VND 377,540 billion, the total outstanding policy credit has reached VND 365,779 billion, an increase of VND 236,322 billion compared to before Directive No. 40-CT/TW, with more than 6.8 million poor households and policy beneficiaries still having outstanding debt.

It is estimated that by December 31, 2024, the total outstanding policy credit balance will reach VND 367,600 billion, of which the outstanding balance of credit programs according to the plan assigned by the Prime Minister annually will reach VND 269,370 billion, completing 100% of the plan assigned by the Prime Minister.

In addition, after 10 years of implementing Directive No. 40-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat, with the attention and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Councils, and People's Committees of provinces and cities, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies has received a lot of support in terms of facilities, locations, equipment, and working means to improve the operational capacity of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, especially, allocating resources from the local budget to the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to supplement capital for lending to poor households and other policy beneficiaries in the area.

Up to now, the local capital entrusted to the Social Policy Bank has increased by 46,213 billion VND compared to before the Directive, bringing the total local capital entrusted to more than 50 trillion VND. Currently, 100% of provincial and district-level units have balanced and entrusted local budget capital to the Social Policy Bank to supplement loan capital.

Over the past 10 years, policy credit capital has supported more than 3.1 million households to overcome the poverty threshold, created jobs for more than 4.2 million workers (of which more than 51,000 workers went to work abroad for a limited period), supported more than 610,000 students to borrow money to study, built more than nearly 13.3 million clean water and rural environmental sanitation works, more than 189,000 houses for the poor and social housing,...

Mr. Huynh Van Thuan - Deputy General Director of the Bank for Social Policies affirmed that Directive No. 40 of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over social policy credit is extremely correct and in line with the people's wishes. Thanks to that, policy credit has entered people's lives faster, achieved more positive results, in line with the Party and State's policies and guidelines in implementing the goal of rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, building new rural areas, ensuring social security, national defense and security, taking care of vulnerable groups, leaving no one behind, and narrowing the gap between rich and poor regions across the country.

The results of the contest will be a great source of motivation to contribute to consolidating trust, enhancing solidarity and unity in the political system and social consensus so that the entire Party and people can continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement Directive No. 39-CT/TW dated October 30, 2024 of the Secretariat on improving the effectiveness of social policy credit in the new period.
