Bold, highly applicable ideas
As one of the two topics that won the First Prize of the 2023 “Student Scientific Research” Award of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture introduced at the Science and Technology Exhibition of the Academy’s students held on June 22, the topic “Digital transformation in livestock farming in Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province” by a group of students from the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development, guided by Dr. Nguyen Anh Duc, has contributed to supporting livestock farmers in Dien Bien district in managing and monitoring their family livestock.
Luong Thi Kim Oanh, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development, said that over the past year, the research team has supported cooperative members in applying digital technology in monitoring and caring for cows, while promoting the cooperative's OCOP products.

Meanwhile, the topic "Evaluation of carbon reserves and accumulation capacity of acacia plantations in Thach Thanh district, Thanh Hoa province" by a group of students Le Viet Hung Anh, Nguyen Van Tuyen, Dang Thi Le, Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment (Vietnam Academy of Agriculture) has contributed to quantifying the economic values of forests, serving the goal of proposing carbon credits and forest environmental service payment policies, improving economic efficiency for forest owners in Thach Thanh district.
As a lecturer guiding students Xa Duc Binh, Mai Van Thuong, Nguyen Van Phuc, Faculty of Fisheries to carry out the topic "Research on Streptococcus agalactiae disease on tilapia (Anabas testudineus)" and won the First Prize of the "Student Scientific Research" Award in 2023, Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Dinh Hoai, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Fisheries (Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture) said that the Faculty of Fisheries has strengths in scientific research among students. Every year, in addition to carrying out scientific research topics at the Academy level, the faculty also proactively cooperates with businesses to support funding for students to confidently conduct scientific research.

“Currently, the Faculty has 9 scientific research topics of students, topics researched by students under the guidance of teachers have won many awards at competitions; many topics have high applicability, continue to be researched and applied by businesses in laboratories. This motivates students to be passionate about research and develop scientific and technological ideas”, Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Dinh Hoai said.
Give priority to students doing scientific research
Assessing the scientific research movement among students, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture emphasized: “The student scientific research movement has been of interest to the Academy for a long time. Accordingly, the Academy organizes competitions on science and technology ideas and student scientific research to create a useful and equal playground for students. The Vietnam Academy of Agriculture is also one of the units with the most student research topics participating in start-up competitions, scientific research at the ministerial and national levels and winning the most awards. In particular, we value the quality of research, theory combined with practice, meeting the needs of businesses so that there are more job opportunities for students after graduation”.

According to the Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, in the near future, the Academy will reserve 500 topics for students to research. Every month and every quarter, the Academy will organize for students to register and compete for ideas. With good ideas, teachers will continue to guide and provide topics for students to research.
“I highly appreciate the scientific research topics of the students. It can be seen that their products are increasingly more applicable and easier to put into practice. With these topics, if there is more companionship and guidance from teachers, they can all become startup products, helping students to be more confident on the path to establishing their own careers,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan.
Over the years, with the spirit of always considering scientific research as the vitality of the university, science and technology as the driving force and key to promote the economy and society, considering science and technology as creating the reputation, stature and prestige of the country, the Academy has always focused on scientific research activities and especially valued the scientific research activities of students.
Every year, with nearly 300 scientific research topics at all levels (including over 100 scientific research topics led by students themselves), thousands of students have actively participated with teachers to carry out scientific research projects well. Many results of student scientific research topics have won many national awards.

In the past 5 years, students of the Academy have won 25 national awards (the “Student Scientific Research Award” of the Ministry of Education and Training and the “Student Scientific Research Award – Euréka”), including 4 First Prizes, 6 Second Prizes, 5 Third Prizes and 10 Encouragement Prizes. Many topics have been continued to be researched at a higher level and developed to create scientific and technological products.
Since 2013, the Academy has been leading the implementation of an agricultural startup program for students nationwide and has attracted over 1,250 participating projects, many of which have won national startup awards with 5 projects winning first prize in the national startup competition and many projects have been realized in production and business.

To continue promoting students' scientific research activities, in addition to the Academy's annual research support budget, the Academy continues to strengthen negotiations with domestic and foreign partners to create opportunities for students to conduct research and academic exchanges domestically and internationally; and support research funding for highly appreciated student scientific research ideas.
At the VNUA Student Science and Technology Conference 2024 held on the evening of June 22, the Director of the Vietnam National University of Agriculture also decided to reward the students who won the "Student Scientific Research" award in 2023, including 2 First prizes, 3 Second prizes, 7 Third prizes and 6 Encouragement prizes; reward the "Scientific Creative Ideas for Students" in 2024 with 2 First prizes, 3 Second prizes, 5 Third prizes and 7 Encouragement prizes; reward the groups displaying at the Science and Technology Exhibition of the Academy's students and honor the instructors of "Student Scientific Research" in 2023 and "Scientific Creative Ideas for Students" in 2024.
Also at the Conference, MSc. Nguyen Trong Tuynh - Secretary of the Youth Union of Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture launched a movement of scientific research and entrepreneurship among students of the Academy.
