On March 16, in Thien Ke commune, the People's Committee of Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province coordinated with Good Neighbors International (GNI) to organize the 2nd Beautiful Goat - Healthy Goat Contest in 2024.
Spring comes, warm sunshine shines down on the village, blending into the bustling atmosphere of the first festival of the year in Son Duong district - Tuyen Quang, tourists everywhere eagerly await the "heroic" battle of the goats, a beautiful cultural feature of the early spring of the locality.
In that spirit, the People's Committee of Son Duong district has coordinated with the GNI Organization and the community to make efforts and strongly support the "Healthy Goat - Beautiful Goat" Contest. This is an initiative to help goat farmers to exchange, learn, and share experiences in raising goats as well as contribute to promoting the Son Duong goat brand to the community. In addition, the Contest is also an opportunity to explore the unique beauty of Son Duong - Tuyen Quang culture.
The contest was attended by 16 teams of farm owners and goat farmers in 15 communes of the district. Each team selected 1 male goat to compete in the goat fighting competition and 1 female goat to compete in the beauty goat competition. The teams went through 3 competitions: goat competition communication (online competition), beauty goat, and health goat.

Mr. Tuan, representative of Ha Tuyen Agricultural and Service Cooperative (Hop Hoa Commune) participating in the contest, said that to win, the goats not only rely on their health but also need to have moves and tricks trained by the goat owners in advance. He shared that when preparing for the tournament, he had to take care of his "fighter" for quite a long time.
The special thing about the goat fighting festival is that the competition is fierce but not destructive, so no goat is injured much, but seems to be stronger and braver. Just like other games held in festivals, goat fighting is not only entertaining but also has spiritual meaning. The healthy goats that win will bring good luck to the breeders.
At the end of the tournament, the goats are gathered into the herd and continue to be raised for breeding, instead of being slaughtered like some buffalo and horse fighting arenas. The festival brings a lively, joyful atmosphere and creates a useful playground for the people.

At the end of the contest, the Organizing Committee awarded 3 first prizes, 4 second prizes, 6 third prizes and 22 consolation prizes. Of which, the goat team of Son Nam commune won first prize in the strong goat competition; the goat team of Van Phu commune won first prize in the goat competition communication competition; and the goat team of Tam Da commune won first prize in the beautiful goat competition.
The contest is an opportunity for people to exchange and share experiences in raising goats, developing goat farming towards commodities to meet market demand. Thereby, arousing the potential for goat farming development; promoting and introducing the goat meat brand of Son Duong district to many regional and international friends, thereby raising awareness about the conservation and development of goat breeds, especially the Son Duong - Tuyen Quang goat brand.
