Hai Phong shipbuilding industry continues to affirm its role as one of the key industries of the city and the country.
On the afternoon of November 22, the Department of Industry and Trade of Hai Phong City and the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Hai Phong City jointly organized a scientific workshop on “Restoration and development of the shipbuilding industry in Hai Phong City: Current situation, opportunities, challenges and solutions”. Attending the workshop was Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung - Director of the Department of Industry, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The workshop is an important forum to raise awareness of the position, role and importance of the shipbuilding industry in the industrialization and modernization of the country and Hai Phong city; assess the current situation, opportunities and challenges in developing Vietnam's shipbuilding industry from the experience of Hai Phong; propose solutions and policy mechanisms to restore and promote the development of the shipbuilding industry in the coming time.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Le Anh Quan - Permanent Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee - emphasized: Hai Phong is a port city, located in the center of the Northern coastal region, an important traffic hub and the main sea gate to the Northern provinces, with convenient exchanges with domestic and international localities - has long been associated with the shipbuilding industry, an industry with a long history of important contributions to the economic development of the city as well as the whole country.
However, in the current context, Hai Phong shipbuilding industry is facing many great challenges. Increasingly fierce competition in the international market, pressure to innovate technology, along with internal difficulties in finance and resources have put the shipbuilding industry in front of urgent requirements for transformation.
Mr. Le Anh Quan hopes that, through the scientific conference, experts, scientists, domestic and foreign shipbuilding units and enterprises will exchange and analyze difficulties and problems... At the same time, propose highly practical solutions and initiatives to restore and develop Hai Phong shipbuilding industry in the new period; continue to affirm its role as one of the key industries of the city and the country. From there, create a strategic position for Hai Phong City when participating in economic corridors, effectively deploying the Government's investment for Hai Phong to develop into a logistics service center of the country and the region.

Within the framework of the workshop, experts, scientists, managers, shipbuilding enterprises and joint venture enterprises, universities and colleges in Hai Phong city focused on assessing the current situation of Hai Phong shipbuilding industry; achievements, lessons learned and causes of current difficulties, opportunities for development of the shipbuilding industry in the coming time.
Delegates also proposed groups of solutions to restore and develop Hai Phong shipbuilding industry, including: Mechanisms and policies; restructuring and innovation of the operating model of shipbuilding enterprises; investment and capital mobilization; solutions on science and technology; development of supporting industries; human resource development; international cooperation; market, land fund and environment... At the same time, clarifying the role of relevant parties: the State, enterprises and international organizations in supporting and promoting the development of the shipbuilding industry.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang - Institute of Transport Strategy and Development, Ministry of Transport - said: The recovery and development of Hai Phong shipbuilding industry is a long-term process and requires the efforts of all ministries, branches, localities and enterprises.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang emphasized: To develop the shipbuilding industry sustainably, Hai Phong City needs to develop a separate project on the development of the shipbuilding industry, thereby determining the development strategy, goals and solutions to be achieved in the coming time. Clearly identify the potential, strengths as well as the common and specific difficulties and challenges of the shipbuilding industry in the city, thereby having appropriate solutions. In particular, there needs to be policy mechanisms, science - technology, human resources for environmental management and protection. On that basis, Hai Phong shipbuilding industry will recover and develop, contributing positively to the development of the city in particular and the country in general.
