At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Ut - Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - said: Long An has many potential advantages to attract investment and trade as it is located at the western gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, the main gateway to the Mekong Delta and the Southeast region.

In 2022, the province's economic scale will reach more than 156,000 billion VND, ranking first in the Mekong Delta region and 13th in the country. Notably, in the first 9 months of this year, the province has attracted more than 141 investment projects with a total capital of nearly 1 billion USD (including 82 FDI projects) and is also in the top 10 provinces/cities attracting the highest FDI capital in the country today.

Not only is it a bright spot in attracting investment, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, Long An also leads the Mekong Delta in terms of exports. Specifically, the whole province currently has more than 900 import-export enterprises, of which more than 320 are foreign-invested enterprises; export products are diverse and the market has expanded to 110 countries and territories.

In recent years, the quality of export products has been improved, enhanced and become more competitive as the product structure has gradually shifted from agricultural products to processing and manufacturing industries. According to statistics, the province's export turnover in 2022 reached about 6.7 billion USD, an increase of 8.9% over the same period. In the first 8 months of 2023, the province's exports reached 3.83 billion USD - far exceeding that of other localities in the region.

In addition to the achieved results, Mr. Nguyen Van Ut also frankly pointed out that the province's export activities are still facing many difficulties, especially in the first months of 2023 due to a downward trend of about 2% compared to the same period. "We have created all conditions to remove difficulties and promote investment to support businesses, but if we only rely on the province's scope and strength, there will be limits. Therefore, this conference was organized with the participation of many foreign businesses and distribution systems in some regions - export markets will create conditions for businesses in the province to find partners and expand exports" - Mr. Ut said.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will accompany and support the province in export promotion activities.

Attending and speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang said: In order to contribute to solving difficulties for manufacturers and exporters in the context of the still difficult consumer market due to the slow recovery of domestic and world market demand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to accompany localities in general and Long An in particular to promote export promotion, trade promotion and trade connection activities. Thereby, supporting the consumption of the province's strong products in both domestic and international markets.

According to Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang, with the policy of diversifying consumption forms, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed its units to closely cooperate with relevant agencies, organizations and enterprises, expanding both traditional and modern distribution channels, focusing on exploiting online channels and e-commerce for Vietnamese goods in domestic and international markets. In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also actively promoted and diversified export markets for Vietnamese products with the drastic participation of the Vietnamese trade office system in all regions of the world.

“Today's conference is an important export and trade promotion activity to promote, promote, and connect the consumption of Long An's strong products in 2023, organized by the Long An Provincial People's Committee in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade" - Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang emphasized.

It is known that this conference was attended by 4 large distribution and retail corporations: Central Retail (Thailand), Aeon (Japan), Lu Lu (United Arab Emirates) and Circle K (Hong Kong); 5 business delegations from China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, United Arab Emirates with a total of over 20 businesses; Commercial Counselors, Heads of Trade Office branches in Beijing, Nanning (China), Japan, Singapore...

Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang hopes that through connection programs such as this conference, Long An province's enterprises will grasp more information about the situation and demand of export markets; update import standards of markets; potential and room for export through cross-border e-commerce. Foreign enterprises will also approach and evaluate the production and supply capacity of Long An export enterprises as well as grasp the logistics development situation in the locality. This will help the export market expand and more new supply chains will be formed, contributing to bringing the strong products of Long An in particular and of Vietnam in general further and more sustainably.

However, in the coming time, in order for Long An's exports to develop more sustainably, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang suggested that the province: Continue to pay attention to and prioritize resources for trade promotion and direct and create conditions for the Department of Industry and Trade and local trade promotion agencies to continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote this activity. The province needs to promote the exploitation of niche markets, markets with much room and potential such as Africa, South Asia, in which special attention should be paid to the African market with nearly 1.5 billion people, importing more than 800 billion USD/year. In addition, continue to support businesses to take advantage of commitments in FTAs, especially the CPTPP, EVFTA, UKVFTA to boost exports, through guidance on the application of rules of origin, facilitating procedures for granting preferential certificates of origin to exploit opportunities from these agreements.
