Vietnamese students win many big prizes at the 9th iCAN International Invention Competition 2024

NDO - According to the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technical Innovation (Vifotec), Vietnamese student teams have won 14 awards in different categories at the iCAN 2024 International Invention Competition. This year's competition attracted the participation of 822 works from more than 50 countries and territories around the world.


iCAN is a prestigious annual competition organized by the Toronto International Society for Innovation and Advanced Skills (TISIAS) - Canada, for young inventors and scientists around the world. The 9th iCAN in 2024 attracted 822 entries, of which 326 topics were selected for the final round.

This year's Vietnamese student delegation has 14 award-winning works in different categories, typically students from the following school groups: Ngo Si Lien Secondary School - Chu Van An Secondary School - Nhan Chinh High School (Hanoi); Brooke House College Secondary School - Quang Trung High School - Le Quy Don School (Hanoi); Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School - Nguyen Van To Secondary School - Paradise Valley Christian Preparatory High School - Vietnam-Australia International School (Ho Chi Minh City); Phan Huy Chu High School - Nguyen Hue Specialized School - Hanoi-Amsterdam Specialized High School (Hanoi); Van Ho Secondary School - Luong The Vinh Secondary School - Phenikaa School (Hanoi); Lao Cai High School No. 3 (Lao Cai).

In particular , a group of students from Ngo Si Lien Secondary School, Chu Van An Secondary School and Nhan Chinh High School - Hanoi excellently won a double with the project "Product classification model using Robotic arm applying image processing". The project not only won the Gold Medal but also excellently entered the final round and won 2 Special prizes, including 1 International Special prize awarded by the Organizing Committee and 1 prize for the best video report. This is the only group in the competition field to achieve this impressive achievement.

Sharing about the project, Nguyen Hung Minh, a 7A4 student at Ngo Si Lien Secondary School, a member of the group, said: "This model helps us understand more about automation and modern equipment. I hope that in the future Vietnam can research and manufacture more high-tech products on its own, helping Vietnam not to depend on foreign technology."

iCAN 2024 will be held online, with rounds of intellectual property registration assessment, topic assessment, poster and presentation before international judges and live Q&A in English recorded on video. The jury will evaluate the inventions based on the project intellectual property registration granted by the National Office of Intellectual Property of the participating countries and detailed research content reports in video, posters sent to the international organizing committee and live presentation content of the inventors during the online competition.

The success of Vietnamese students at the international competition is a clear demonstration of the creative potential of the country's young generation. This result not only affirms Vietnam's position on the world technology map but also serves as a great source of inspiration for young people with a passion for science and creativity.
