Vietnamese students won four medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics

The Ministry of Education and Training said that on the night of September 5 (Vietnam time), it received information about the official results of the Vietnam National Team participating in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2024. As a result, all four students who were members of the Team won medals. The students who were members of the Team are all students of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The achievements of two Gold Medals belonged to Pham Cong Minh, a 12th grader, and Hoang Xuan Bach, a 11th grader; the Silver Medal belonged to Nguyen Huu Tuan, a 10th grader; and the Bronze Medal belonged to Pham Ngoc Trung, a 12th grader.

The 36th IOI was held from September 1 to 6 in Alexandria, Egypt with the participation of 353 contestants competing in person from 91 countries and territories (in addition to Russia, Belarus and Australia competing under the Olympic flag) and 9 contestants competing online from Israel, Iran and Germany. All 4 members of the Vietnam National IOI Team won medals, putting the team's achievements in the group of 4 countries and territories with the highest results according to the medal tally, after the US, Japan and Poland (according to the results announced on the website of the IOI 2024 Organizing Committee, not ranking the Russian and Israeli teams). In 2023, the Vietnam IOI Team is in the group of 9 countries with the highest results according to the medal tally with 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal. According to the regulations of the IOI 2024 Council, the International Olympiad in Informatics has two official competition days. On each competition day, candidates will take a 5-hour computer programming test and solve 3 problems with rich content. The results will be automatically graded online by the system and the live scoreboard will be announced throughout the two competition days. According to the assessment of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, this year's exam is highly difficult, requiring candidates to apply knowledge flexibly and be creative. With the strong development of the digital technology industry, countries are increasingly investing heavily in their teams and the competition between countries is getting higher in this competition. The IOI 2024 Organizing Committee will hold the Closing and Award Ceremony starting at 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 6 (Egypt time).
