The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2023, hosted by Japan from July 10th to 17th, saw the participation of 398 contestants from 84 countries and territories. This was the largest IPhO ever held. All five Vietnamese students participating in the International Physics Olympiad (iPhO) won medals, placing the Vietnamese team among the top contenders out of 84 countries and territories. Nguyen Tuan Duong, a 12th-grade student specializing in Physics at Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students, outstandingly won a Silver Medal.

The two students who won Gold Medals are Nguyen Tan Phong from Bac Ninh Specialized High School, and Vo Hoang Hai from the Specialized High School for Natural Sciences , Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The remaining Silver Medal for the Vietnamese delegation went to Le Viet Hoang Anh from Lam Son High School for the Gifted (Thanh Hoa). Phan The Manh from Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted won the Bronze Medal.
According to the IPhO 2023 regulations, candidates take the practical exam on the first day and the theoretical exam on the second day. Each exam lasts 5 hours. This year's theoretical and practical exams were considered good but lengthy, with content relevant to everyday life and high school students.
With 100% of its students winning medals, the Vietnamese team is among the top performers in the IPhO 2023 competition. The students' practical exam scores showed significant improvement compared to previous competitions.
The International Physics Olympiad was first held in 1967. Vietnam first participated in this competition in 1981. Last year, all five Vietnamese students who competed in the IPhO also won medals, with three gold, one silver, and one bronze.
The People's Committee of Hai Phong City has awarded a total of 720 million VND to the leadership and teachers of Tran Phu High School and to student Duong personally.
