The International Physics Olympiad - IPhO 2023, hosted by Japan, took place from July 10 to July 17, with the participation of 398 contestants from 84 countries and territories. This is the largest IPhO ever. All 5 students participating in the International Physics Olympiad (iPhO) won medals, putting the Vietnamese delegation in the top group among 84 countries and territories. Nguyen Tuan Duong, a 12th grade Physics major student at Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, won the Silver Medal.

The two students who won Gold Medals were Nguyen Tan Phong, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, and Vo Hoang Hai, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The remaining Silver Medal of the Vietnamese delegation belonged to Le Viet Hoang Anh, Lam Son High School for the Gifted (Thanh Hoa). Phan The Manh, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, won the Bronze Medal.
According to the regulations of IPhO 2023, on the first day, candidates will take the practical exam, and on the second day, they will take the theoretical exam. Each exam lasts 5 hours. This year's theoretical and practical exams are considered good but long, with content close to life and high school students.
With 100% of students winning medals, the Vietnamese team is in the top group of the IPhO 2023 exam. Students' practical exam scores have improved significantly compared to previous exams.
The first International Physics Olympiad was held in 1967. Vietnam first participated in this competition in 1981. Last year, all five Vietnamese students competing in the IPho also won medals with three gold, one silver, and one bronze.
Hai Phong City People's Committee presented a total of 720 million VND to the leaders and teachers of Tran Phu High School and Duong personally.
To encourage the teachers and Nguyen Tuan Duong, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City awarded the leaders and teachers of Tran Phu High School and Duong a total of 720 million VND, including 400 million VND for Duong alone.
