Thua Thien - Hue students are off school due to heavy rain, risk of widespread flooding

Due to the complicated flood situation, to ensure the safety of students and teachers, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien - Hue province has announced that students in the whole province will be off school on November 25 until further notice.

On November 25, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien - Hue province announced that it had allowed students in the entire province to stay home from school due to heavy rain and rising flood waters on rivers.

According to information from the Hydrometeorological Station of Thua Thien - Hue province, floods on rivers in the province are currently rising rapidly. At 5:00 a.m. on November 25, the water level of the Huong River at Kim Long station was at 2.88 m, 0.62 m below alert level 3; the Bo River at Phu Oc was at 3.65 m, 0.65 m above alert level 2.

It is forecasted that on January 25, water levels on rivers will continue to rise, flood peaks on Huong River and Bo River may reach and exceed alert level 3, beware of widespread flooding in downstream areas.

To ensure the safety of students and teachers, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien - Hue province announced that students in the whole province will be off school on November 25 until further notice.

According to records, on the morning of November 25, some roads in Hue city were deeply flooded, making traffic very difficult.

Previously, due to the influence of the cold air mass moving south, from the evening of November 24, there was heavy to very heavy rain in Thua Thien - Hue province. By 6:00 a.m. on November 25, the very heavy rain was still concentrated in the upper reaches of the Huong River and Bo River.

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of Thua Thien - Hue province said that heavy rains will continue to cause floods in the downstream areas and there is a risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and along rivers and streams. The water level of Huong and Bo rivers is likely to be at or above alert level 3.
