Many students after graduating from high school are wondering whether to go to university or work abroad, when on newspapers, radio, and social networks there is a lot of information about working abroad earning tens of millions of dong per month, while many graduates are... unemployed.

Experts warn that caution is needed to avoid getting caught up in the "vortex" of labor export.

Consider carefully

According to MSc. Vo Ngoc Nhon - Deputy Director of the Admissions Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the "glittering" things that students see on social networks do not show the whole picture of the labor export issue.

Besides those who are successful, sending money back to their families to build houses, buy cars, bring some capital back to the country to do business or settle down permanently, there are still cases of falling into debt, separation or getting caught up in legal factors if they do not control themselves well and understand the laws of the host country.

"Studying at university or working abroad are both good choices, but that decision should be made after fully considering all factors, both objective and subjective, and should not be based solely on public opinion or one-sided information," Mr. Nhon affirmed.

Master Tran Nam - career guidance and recruitment expert - correctly stated that labor export helps many people have jobs and income early, while also being trained, expanding their knowledge and gaining social experience.

"However, there are also many fields that can be dangerous to workers' health due to toxic and unsafe working environments, facing risks when integrating into a new environment," said Mr. Nam.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, a psychology lecturer at Quy Nhon University, analyzed that there are many reasons that affect students' psychology. The situation of students graduating without finding jobs or with low income, family awareness, herd mentality, imitation... also greatly affect students' choices.

"In reality, there are localities where the whole village invites each other to work abroad. Many families and students see their seniors sending money back to their families in Vietnam, so they are affected, even though they do not know the work and life of working abroad as well as the wishes of the students," Ms. Trang commented.

Think long term

Ms. Nguyen Hang (Nam Dinh) said that when she worked as a human resources officer at a company, she met many young people who had sent their CVs to work abroad, but were almost always rejected because the recruiting company required a college degree as the minimum requirement.

"It is very difficult to find a job after returning to Vietnam after working abroad. Because exported labor is mainly manual labor, besides foreign languages, you are mostly lacking in other professional skills. If you plan to work long-term, young people should carefully consider whether to go to university or work abroad," Ms. Hang added.

Ms. My Duyen (Quang Ngai) shared that she has been working in Japan for three years now. Here, if you are not lucky enough to choose a good company, you will easily be beaten. Many people have to do hard work but the salary they receive is not commensurate.

"You have to choose carefully. If your family is not too poor and can afford to go to school, then go, because exporting labor is not as simple as the information others share on social networks. Although the salary is high, you have to trade off many things such as health, family, and time," Ms. Duyen advised.

According to Ms. Duyen, the Japanese currency fluctuates erratically. Two years ago, her income was about 32 million VND/month, but the yen exchange rate fluctuated, sometimes it was only 23 million, sometimes lower. Saving 600 - 700 million in three years is not easy, and she still has to pay off brokers' debts, bank loans, and expensive living expenses, so she doesn't have much left.

Deciding to go back to university after working in Japan, Ms. Xuan Hoa (Cao Bang) said that for her, studying is a lifelong thing. In the past, her family was poor so she did not have the conditions to study. Now that things are more stable, she decided to return to Japan to study to continue her dream.

"Don't give up your future for the sake of money. If you really have to drop out of school to work abroad, you need to think long-term about what you will do after you finish working abroad, go to school or do business... Otherwise, it will just be a vicious cycle, going and coming back, coming back and going again," Ms. Hoa advised.

Learn carefully before deciding to export labor.

You need to carefully research jobs, income, and life abroad, and clearly understand your own needs and abilities.

The success of each individual is not only through going to university, but if you choose to work abroad, you need to research carefully before making a decision.

Going to work abroad should not only be for the purpose of earning money to support yourself and your family, but also to practice skills and train your will to build a foundation for the future.
