The highlight of the 2nd Ho Chi Minh City River Festival is the special art program "The River Tells Stories, Season 2 - The Legendary Train" with more than 1,000 actors and 9,000 live participants. This is the first outdoor musical to take place on the Saigon River, recreating historical stories through a completely new artistic language with many surprising elements.
Honoring historical and cultural values, national pride
According to information from the Organizing Committee, "Storytelling River Season 2 - Legendary Train" will combine history, cinema, and entertainment to convey meaningful messages from the heroic historical story of the nation, taking viewers from one surprise to another. Thereby, it will inspire pride in the nation's historical journey, the vision, intelligence, heroic spirit, and indomitability of the previous generation and the dynamism and creativity of today's generation.
The performance will have exciting climaxes with grand scenes, emotional highlights, delving into the characters' inner psyches, exploiting historical stories and anecdotes about historical figures in important historical contexts, associated with special trains.
The program is a story about special ships that have come and gone on the Saigon River, historical ships associated with important milestones of the nation, the first Vietnamese ships launched, ships that set sail carrying the fate of the entire nation, resounding ship battles on the river, ships that reunited after decades of separation, ships that brought Vietnamese brands to all five continents... It is not only the story of the ships but also the journey of the entire nation, going down in history and becoming a legend.
With that investment, the Organizing Committee hopes that the program will create a trend of combining education and entertainment (EDU-TAINMENT), honoring historical and cultural values, and national pride in the youth community through modern art forms.
Behind the creative ideas to bring about a satisfying art program, bringing sublime emotions is the combination of "four great talents" in the field of creativity and art including: General Director Nguyen Hai Yen, Stage Director Pham Hoang Nam, Music Director Duc Tri, Chief Choreographer Tan Loc and designer Viet Hung.
In addition, the art program also received the support of experts and content consultants such as Mr. Phan Xuan Bien, former Head of the City Party Committee's Ideology and Culture Department, Historian Duong Trung Quoc, Dr. Tran Du Lich, Associate Professor - Dr. Huynh Quoc Thang, People's Artist Tran Van Giau, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hau, painter Hua Thanh Binh...
Many techniques appear for the first time
Not only does the program combine talented directors, musicians, and choreographers in each field, it also combines many modern technologies such as cinematography, 3D Mapping projection technology, water screens, water moving stages, drone performances, and fireworks.
In particular, the stages and settings are constantly changing and moving, sometimes on the shore, sometimes on the river, sometimes on the boat to create many surprising elements in terms of art and technology, and at the same time promise to leave a deep impression on the hearts of the audience and visitors attending the opening of the Ho Chi Minh City River Festival 2024.
General Director Le Hai Yen revealed: "Storytelling River Season 2 - Legendary Train" gathers a huge number of participants, nearly 1,000 professional actors and extras. The outdoor performance space at Nha Rong Port - Khanh Hoi - Saigon Port will be transformed into a large film studio, with flexible and constantly changing settings to surprise viewers.
Through chapters with special stage techniques and performances, the program will allow the audience to continue to explore and understand more about the Saigon River - the river of history, the flow of time, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with all continents and cultures around the world - which has witnessed many changes and transformations of history.
