In Hoa Binh province, storm No. 3 and its circulation have left severe impacts on many economic and social fields, including education and training.

The entire education sector is joining hands, contributing, and unanimously overcoming the consequences caused by the storm to soon stabilize learning and carry out the school year's tasks. In particular, in the mountainous district of Da Bac, the government and people are united in overcoming the storm and flood, ensuring the quality of teaching and learning programs for teachers and students.

No student absent from school

Da Bac is known as the most difficult district in Hoa Binh province. After experiencing storm No. 3, the district was the most severely damaged locality. The already difficult district is now even more difficult when a series of new locations show signs of landslides, threatening the lives and property of local people.

After warning signs of landslide risks appeared at Ao Ech hill area right behind the hamlet, assessing this as an unpredictable and dangerous landslide site, the authorities of Cao Son commune and Da Bac district immediately decided to evacuate people from the dangerous area.

From 2:00 p.m. on September 13, 30 households with 126 people in Rang hamlet, Cao Son commune, Da Bac district had to urgently evacuate, because their houses were in an area with a very high risk of landslides; at the same time, the activities of two kindergartens and primary schools in Rang hamlet were temporarily suspended.

The two schools had to temporarily close just one week before the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Twelve preschool students and 32 elementary school students were at risk of having to take a long break from school.

However, with the determination not to let students stop studying during the time when schools had to close to respond to natural disasters..., the authorities of Cao Son commune, Da Bac district, mass organizations from district to commune, especially the district Department of Education and Training coordinated promptly, arranging students from 2 schools in Rang hamlet to study at the school in Son Phu hamlet, nearly 10km from Rang hamlet. This is the closest school and convenient for parents and students of Rang hamlet to travel to.

Mr. Ngo Van Cuong, Secretary of the Cao Son Commune Party Committee, said that after verifying and understanding the information about the current situation of landslide risks in Rang hamlet, the local authorities promptly went to the area with the people to move assets out of the landslide area, and at the same time, arranged for students from Rang hamlet schools to gather at Son Phu school, Cao Son Primary and Secondary School to ensure that the study time of Rang hamlet students was not interrupted.

Following Mr. Cuong, we visited class 1+2, headed by teacher Vu Thi Minh Duyen. Ms. Duyen was also the former homeroom teacher of the class at the school in Xom Rang, transferred to the new school and continued teaching. In the joyful atmosphere of the classroom, both the teacher and the students were excited and confident in their studies.

Mr. Do Duc Thanh, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Da Bac district, said that up to now, students in Rang hamlet have been guaranteed equipment to continue their study program according to regulations. At the same time, the district education sector will support, provide and supplement necessary items for the students to study best.

Ensuring students are "real enough to practice"

Immediately after the merger of the school from Rang hamlet to Son Phu school, 15 preschool students were arranged to study at the main school Cao Son Kindergarten and enjoyed boarding benefits according to regulations for preschool students.

However, difficulties arose in meeting the boarding and lunch needs of 32 primary school students who study two sessions a day, whose houses are far from the school, and Son Phu school could not implement the boarding regime. Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of Da Bac district and the Board of Directors of Cao Son Primary and Secondary School directed the creation of all conditions regarding classrooms, teaching equipment, and nap rooms for the children in Rang hamlet.

At the same time, the Women's Group of the Women's Association of Son Phu hamlet proposed to the Cao Son commune government to join hands to support the children with a very meaningful action by volunteering to cook lunch for students of Rang hamlet during the days they had to study away from home. The Cao Son commune government, people and parents were very happy and supportive, some contributed labor and money to carry out the program together.

In the school kitchen, nearly 10 members of the Son Phu Women's Association, each busy with their own task, were in a joyful atmosphere. It was not only the spirit of sharing and supporting each other in times of trouble, but also the great love that the women of Son Phu hamlet had for the students of Rang hamlet - the young students who had to go to school far from home due to natural disasters and floods.

The sound of the school bell ending the afternoon class was also the time when 32 students of Rang hamlet school gathered in the school yard, which had been covered with a tarpaulin to protect them from the sun and rain. Here, a row of tables and chairs had been arranged with hot, delicious meals by teachers and members of the Son Phu hamlet Women's Association. The children sat on both sides of the table, eating lunch amidst the sounds of chatter and laughter.

Watching her students having lunch, teacher Vu Thi Chau Loan - Vice Principal of Cao Son Primary and Secondary School said: "I am truly touched by the hearts and love of the women of Son Phu hamlet's Women's Association for the children. I have been a teacher in Cao Son commune (Da Bac) since 1991, this is the first time I have witnessed the warm participation of the people, the support of the Party Committee, the government, and the district education sector working together with parents to overcome difficulties, helping students go to school safely, and parents feel secure and warm."

Ms. Ly Thi Xuan has a son named Luong Thien Phuc, who studied in the 1+2 combined class at the school in Rang hamlet, and is now studying at the school in Son Phu hamlet. She shared that she always tries to spend her free time to cook lunch with the members of the Association.

When children study far from home, are taken care of and helped by teachers at school, and have delicious, nutritious meals, parents feel more confident and motivated to overcome difficulties related to landslides, develop the economy, and soon stabilize their lives.

In a happy and warm atmosphere, students of Rang hamlet enjoyed delicious and nutritious lunches. Two siblings, Dinh Khanh Linh (grade 4) and Dinh Hai Nam (grade 2), shared that they have never felt so much love when they are away from home. They get to eat lunch and take a nap at school.

Secretary of the Da Bac District Party Committee Bui Duc Hau said that in the coming time, the district will have a plan to arrange land area and housing area for households in the relocation area; at the same time, plan to relocate two schools in Rang hamlet, Cao Son commune to a new safe location so that teachers and students can study and work with peace of mind./.
