Tottenham coach determined to play offensively with Man City

VnExpressVnExpress02/12/2023

Coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed that he will continue to let Tottenham pursue their attacking philosophy when they play Man City in round 14 of the Premier League.

In a press conference on December 1, when asked if Tottenham would continue to play offensively when facing Man City, Postecoglou replied: "What you believe in is only tested in the most difficult times. It is not tested when everything is going well."

Postecoglou believes that big teams have in common the fact that they have a game plan, invest and stick to it, even when things get tough. He cited Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal as examples. Therefore, he will continue to let Tottenham play attacking football as they have done since the beginning of the season.

Midfielder Pape Sarr will be absent, taking Tottenham's injury list to 11. However, Postecoglou is not too worried about this. He wants Tottenham to play and win like a big club.

"You either become a club that tries to beat the big clubs, or you become a big club," Postecoglou added. "My hope and ambition is to make Tottenham a big club. "To do that, you have to be successful and win things. To win, you have to have a plan, stick to it and believe in it."

Tottenham were unbeaten at the start of the season in 10 games. Postecoglou's team led the way in rounds eight, nine and ten. However, due to injuries to several players, especially midfielder James Maddison, they lost their last three games. Tottenham are currently fifth, with 26 points after 13 games.

Meanwhile, Man City ranked second with 29 points. The defending champions are only one point behind Arsenal and are considered to have a good chance of defending the title.

Postecoglou signed for Tottenham in the summer, having previously helped Celtic win back-to-back Scottish titles, Yokohama Marinos win the Japanese league in 2019 and Australia win the Asian Cup in 2015.
