Yesterday (October 12), after the 1-1 draw between Vietnam and India in Thien Truong ( Nam Dinh ), veteran striker Nguyen Van Quyet decided to retire from international football. Before the news of Van Quyet's retirement from the national team, coach Philippe Troussier shared his comments about his former student.

On his personal Facebook page, the former captain of the Vietnamese team wrote: "Respect for Van Quyet! The first time I came to Vietnam in 2018, in the first domestic match I ever watched, Van Quyet was the player that impressed me the most. Until the end of my time in Vietnam and even until now, that impression is still with me.
He is a player with great tactical and technical intelligence to execute the ideas he wants to execute. Furthermore, he possesses a way of thinking that creates individual moments of brilliance beyond his structural responsibilities, a valuable quality for an attacking player.
Perhaps from an outsider's perspective, Van Quyet is a selfish player. But after having the opportunity to work with him during my tenure at the national team, I can call him a team player.
Although at that time I was lucky enough to call up Van Quyet before he retired, I felt it was unfortunate that I could not use him at the peak of his career. I explained to him from the beginning that physically, it would be difficult for me to select him in the squad. However, he had to be ready at any time when the team needed him, because he possessed those rare qualities.
I know those words can be very direct and hurtful, but with his professionalism and experience, he respected my decision in particular and the common good of the team in general. He always gave his all in training sessions, advised the young players to improve and stay motivated, and entered the field with the highest enthusiasm, especially in the difficult match in Manila.
For me, Van Quyet will remain a great player in the history of Vietnamese football, one of the best playmakers the country has ever produced. I am sure that with his character, Van Quyet will contribute even more to the future of Vietnamese football. Hopefully, I can see him in a coaching position in the very near future."

Van Quyet shared his decision to retire from the national team with coach Kim Sang Sik and his teammates in the locker room after the match against India. The Hanoi FC striker said that although he still has the desire to contribute to the team, his current physical condition does not allow him to compete at a high intensity at the national team level. The team needs to give more opportunities to the younger generation of players.
Van Quyet is one of the players who has contributed for many years and left a strong impression in the national team. Throughout his international career, this player who owns two Vietnamese Golden Balls has scored many important goals and is one of the veteran players of the team.
The Hanoi Club star has participated in many major regional and continental tournaments, with the team winning the 2018 AFF Cup, becoming the runner-up of the 2022 AFF Cup, reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 Asiad, bringing many memorable moments to fans.
