On August 1, the Vietnamese women's team will face the Netherlands in the final match of Group E of the 2023 World Cup.
Coach Mai Duc Chung at the press conference before the match against the Netherlands.
At the press conference held at noon on July 31, coach Mai Duc Chung said that the match against the Netherlands will be very difficult for Huynh Nhu and her teammates.
However, the whole team will still look forward to this match with the highest confidence and determination.
“Even though we were eliminated, we absolutely will not give up. The team had a meeting to learn from our experience and determined to play our best.
The Dutch women's team is very strong, they are currently the runner-up in the World Cup and are also competing on goal difference to get a ticket to the next round. So we will definitely face many difficulties," said Mr. Chung.
Coach Mai Duc Chung said that he and his colleagues have carefully calculated the playing style and personnel in the final match of Group E.
“Players who are mentally ready and in good health will be given priority to play first. There are some older players in the team, and if they are not physically fit enough to play in big matches, they will face many difficulties.
We will have a careful calculation of the force and there will be some changes tomorrow.
We are weaker than the Netherlands so we will have to play defensively. If we play offensively we will face many difficulties.
Like in the last match with Portugal, we pushed up our attacking formation so we left ourselves exposed behind," the coach of the Vietnamese women's team shared.
At the press conference, coach Mai Duc Chung admitted that the professional gap between Vietnamese football and the teams participating in the World Cup is very large.
“I have said it before, it is clear that Southeast Asian football is still far behind the world in terms of level.
Southeast Asia is a football backwater, we have to admit that frankly. Compared to Asia, we are one level behind, and in the world, we are even further behind.
“The Vietnamese women’s team’s participation in the World Cup is already a success. In the last two matches, the whole team has put in a lot of effort and determination,” Mr. Chung concluded.
