After nearly a month of participating in the 2023 Women's World Cup in New Zealand, the Vietnamese women's team will return to Hanoi at noon on August 3. Coach Mai Duc Chung shared his emotional thoughts after the historic journey.

* Despite playing very hard, against the defending runner-up Netherlands with superior skills, the Vietnamese women's team lost 0-7 on the day of saying goodbye to the 2023 Women's World Cup.
After the match, coach Mai Duc Chung and his players walked around the field to thank the audience , especially the Vietnamese fans who had always accompanied and cheered for the Vietnamese women's team throughout the tournament.
Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team left the 2023 World Cup at the bottom of Group E, not winning any points, not scoring any goals, and conceding 12 goals.
Although there was some regret for not scoring at least one goal, Huynh Nhu and her teammates had a historic journey in their first participation in the women's world cup.
In all three matches against the US, Portugal and the Netherlands, the Vietnamese girls, despite being at a disadvantage compared to their opponents, always showed great fighting spirit, bringing the image of Vietnamese women's football to the world.
For female players, participating in the World Cup is also a good experience, adding motivation to join Vietnamese women's football in striving to compete in the big tournaments ahead.
After the match with the Netherlands, the Vietnamese women's team had a night's rest before returning home on August 2.
At 11:30 a.m. on August 3, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will arrive at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi), officially ending their emotional journey to the 2023 Women's World Cup.
* Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung shared: "Congratulations to the Dutch women's team, you played well, you are better than us, congratulations on entering the round of 16.
The Vietnamese women's team cannot be compared to them, we are helpless. The players' spirit was high today but it could not make up for the inferiority in skills, we really deserved to lose.
We have prepared for the World Cup for more than a year, the VFF has created conditions for us to compete and improve, but we still have to work harder to overcome our professional shortcomings. On behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank the fans at home and abroad who have supported the team in the past matches."

The 74-year-old strategist shared his surprise about the match result: "A score of 0-7 is normal, with the level of the Vietnamese women's team playing against the Netherlands, losing like that is normal. We are comfortable, not too pressured because we are inferior in terms of level.
Even if the loss score is small, I'm afraid of losing more. The whole team has tried very hard. I also hope that the team in Group E, the US or the Netherlands, will make it to the final, to show that we deserved to lose to them."
"I am very satisfied with the fighting spirit of the female players. The spirit is very good, but they are still inferior in terms of professional stature and comprehensiveness compared to the other team.
Conceding 12 goals in the last three matches, it's clear that the team's level is still low. In Asia, our level is also low, the effort in the past time is wonderful.
Thank you VFF for creating conditions for us to have training matches before the World Cup, to gain experience and get the same results as in the group stage. If there was no training session before the tournament, the 3 group stage matches would have been worse. We still have many issues to consider for the future.
When returning to Vietnam, players need to set an example for young players to strive in training, and encourage players to improve in many aspects such as increasing height and training in environments like schools.
Many grassroots tournaments need to be organized. I think having only 5-6 clubs is still inadequate for women's football," coach Mai Duc Chung gave a general assessment of the entire team at the 2023 World Cup.

* Sharing after the match, midfielder Duong Thi Van said: "The Dutch women's team is of a superior level to us. The whole team played with high spirit. This defeat helped us learn many lessons and try harder in the future. Being able to participate in the World Cup is a source of pride.
Although the professional level is not equal, Vietnam's spirit is always the highest. We learned a lot about expertise after the World Cup. The whole team thanks the fans who always cheer for the team, the whole team will try to compete better in the future."
This was a memorable World Cup for coach Mai Duc Chung's team, as the Vietnamese women's team had memorable experiences in the world's top playground.
