"As a head coach, I feel not only helpless but also devastated when I see the players not giving 100% on the field because of what happened," coach Gong Oh Kyun shared on his personal page after being fired by the Hanoi Police Club on January 18.
Before being fired, the Korean strategist's team went through 4 consecutive matches without a win (two draws, two losses). After that, Technical Director Tran Tien Dai was assigned to take temporary charge, and the defending champion immediately beat Binh Duong 3-0 in round 8.

However, after returning to Korea, the 49-year-old coach suddenly revealed about the unforgettable time at Hanoi Police Club on his personal page. According to coach Gong Oh Kyon, when he was still holding the "hot seat" at Hanoi Police Club, he only focused on the players, the club and did not care about anything else.
He does not differentiate between foreign and domestic players but evaluates them based on training and competition. The head coach has the right to select players, give tactical instructions during the match and takes full responsibility.
However, coach Gong Oh Kyon revealed that a director had interfered in the coach's work. "He suddenly returned and put pressure on some players, forcing them to play. The external pressure had an unfavorable effect on the team and on me, as the team's coach.
In the final minutes of the match against Khanh Hoa, goalkeeper Nguyen Filip wanted to join the attack. I thought that doing so would risk conceding a goal and affect the goal difference for the whole season, so I did not agree. The technical director pushed me from behind and ordered the goalkeeper to come forward," coach Gong Oh Kyun recounted.
Notably, after the 1-2 loss to Khanh Hoa, Mr. Gong Oh Kyun was stripped of his position as coach in the match against Binh Duong Club later. The Korean strategist said that he was encouraged by the team's leadership to rest and would return to work during the pre-Lunar New Year holiday.
"However, those were empty promises. Before I knew it, I was informed of my dismissal, and the club's commitment to give me a chance until the end of phase 1 was a complete lie.
Although I felt it was unfair, I cooperated with the club as much as possible to keep the terms of the contract confidential, but someone leaked the details of my contract to the public and the media reported that I did not agree to terminate the contract because the compensation had not been agreed.
They pressured me to terminate the contract, such as moving my residence and transferring me to take charge of the youth team," said coach Gong Oh Kyun.
At the end of his letter, Coach Gong Oh Kyun affirmed that he still loves Vietnamese football and people, and is still ready to return if there is an opportunity in the future.
"It still hurts me to see Vietnam progress so much thanks to great leaders and players, but I believe I am not the only one who has been treated like this. I am about to leave Vietnam but I am telling you this detailed story in the hope that no one else has to suffer like me.
Once again we would like to thank everyone for welcoming and supporting us. As with everything in the world, if there is a good day and a good opportunity, I hope to be able to meet you again," the Korean strategist affirmed.
