Recently, the editorial board of Accountability in Research has a new member: Dr. Duong Tu. This is a prestigious journal, established in 1989, under Taylor & Francis Publishing House, a long-standing international publishing group since 1852. The goal of the journal is to promote accountability and integrity in research. The journal's editorial board includes many famous scholars and authorities on scientific integrity, with research that has great policy impact.

Dr. Duong Tu became better known to the world's scientific integrity expert community through an interview on Retraction Watch , a news site of the Center for Scientific Integrity in the US.

Dr. Duong Tu is a founding member of the Scientific Integrity Forum on Facebook. He is a character in the article Scientific Knights published in Thanh Nien Newspaper. Spring 2022 issue, and is also a regular contributor to the newspaper on the topic of scientific integrity.

Sharing with Thanh Nien Newspaper, Dr. Duong Tu said: "I have referred to and cited many works in this journal in my previous articles and lectures on academic integrity. Participating in the Editorial Board with the world's leading scholars and having the opportunity to exchange and learn directly from them is not only an honor but also a responsibility for me."

According to Dr. Duong Tu, he became known to the world's scientific integrity community after a series of investigative articles in Thanh Nien Newspaper in March 2022. The series of articles exposed a foreign professor at a university in Vietnam for forgery and large-scale academic fraud that shocked Taiwan.

After this series of articles, Dr. Duong Tu was invited by Professor Guillaume Cabanac (University of Toulouse, France) to join the world's scientific integrity expert community. Professor Cabanac is a leading expert on research integrity, and was honored by Nature magazine in the list of 10 most influential people who contributed to shaping global science in 2021.

"Professor Lisa Rasmussen, Editor-in-Chief of Accountability in Research , may have known me through the scientific integrity expert community. In her invitation to join the editorial board, Professor Rasmussen also mentioned that she had just read my interview on Retraction Watch and said that she was very impressed to learn about the Scientific Integrity group with a size of up to 100,000 members focusing on discussing topics on scientific integrity," Dr. Duong Tu shared.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR VIETNAMESE SCIENCE

The interview Dr. Duong Tu mentioned was conducted by Retraction Watch after the Scientific Integrity forum suddenly disappeared on Facebook and then unexpectedly reappeared ( Thanh Nien reported). After the interview, the world's scientific integrity community paid more attention to developments in scientific integrity from Vietnam.

Dr. Duong Tu shared: "After Retraction Watch published an interview with me, Dr. Leslie McIntosh, Vice President of Research Integrity at Digital Science (a well-known technology company in the research community), had some comments that I found very interesting. According to Dr. McIntosh, some people when looking at reports of scientific misconduct in developing countries like Vietnam may underestimate and consider that the research community there does not exist. However, in those communities there are still dedicated individuals who make efforts to promote scientific integrity in their countries."

"Dr. McIntosh believes that their efforts are essential to building a healthy global research environment, including exposing misconduct and nurturing good science. We need to protect and recognize valuable contributions from around the world. Dr. McIntosh's comments show respect for the third world scientific community, which, although still far behind countries with advanced science, is persistently building honest science, making meaningful contributions to a cleaner and healthier global research environment," according to Dr. Duong Tu.

"AMBASSADOR" OF SCIENTIFIC INTEGRITY OF VIETNAM

Dr. Duong Tu's participation in the global community of scientific integrity experts more than 2 years ago has given him the opportunity to regularly share with international colleagues about developments related to scientific integrity in Vietnam and consult their opinions. Through Dr. Duong Tu, many international news sites and scientific forums have updated quite fully and promptly what is happening in Vietnamese science.

Dr. Duong Tu also cooperated with many colleagues in the scientific integrity expert community to investigate and dismantle the network of foreign brokers participating in the buying and selling of articles and scientific fraud in Vietnam, as well as the huge system of predatory and fake journals with many articles bearing Vietnamese addresses.

Dr. Duong Tu is also a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), one of the world's most influential institutions on academic publishing.

According to Dr. Duong Tu, when participating in the above activities and organizations, he hopes that he can act as a bridge, bringing domestic scientific integrity issues to the international level to put them into the global picture, illuminating them from new perspectives; at the same time, sharing information, awareness, and new policies related to research integrity in the world with the Vietnamese scientific community.

Therefore, Dr. Duong Tu considers participating in the Editorial Board of Accountability in Research journal as a valuable opportunity to learn and research more deeply about scientific integrity, as well as connect with the world's leading scholars in this field.

"Expanding my knowledge on issues related to integrity and science policy on a global scale, as well as expanding my international network of collaborators, will help me gain more useful information and knowledge to continue sharing with those interested in Vietnam. I believe that although there is still a gap with advanced science, a Vietnamese science with dignity, purity and transparency will certainly be recognized and respected by the world," Dr. Duong Tu shared.

Dr. Duong Tu, 38 years old, was a lecturer at Hanoi University of Pharmacy before going to Belgium to do research and then to the US in 2018 to do post-doctoral research. He is currently a senior researcher at Purdue University (Indiana, USA), where he focuses on developing advanced drug formulations. Dr. Duong Tu's research has been published in leading pharmaceutical journals and is widely referenced by international colleagues.

Many useful contributions to the work of building a clean scientific environment

In a scientific journal, the role of the Editorial Board is the most important, if not the most important. The reputation and quality of the journal depends entirely on the reputation, qualifications and dedication of the Editorial Board members. Dr. Duong Tu's invitation to join the Accountability in Research Editorial Board reflects the journal's interest in his activities to promote scientific integrity in Vietnam as well as its influence on the international scientific community.

The invitation to participate in the Editorial Board by Accountability in Research is not only a recognition but also an encouragement and opportunity for Dr. Duong Tu to make more useful contributions to the work of building a clean and trustworthy scientific environment for the benefit of the community.

High appreciation from the international scholarly community

Accountability in Research is a prestigious international journal, published for 35 years, with the aim of promoting the exchange of academic integrity globally. Dr. Duong Tu's invitation to become a member of the journal's Editorial Board reflects the international scholarly community's appreciation for Dr. Tu's great efforts to promote academic integrity in Vietnam through the Scientific Integrity Forum, as well as the discovery of many serious problems in science in a number of countries. Dr. Tu also contributes to raising public and social awareness of academic integrity through the press (such as many series of articles in Thanh Nien Newspaper).
