Metro Line No. 1 project (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) has completed 98% of the work volume and is expected to be commercially operational in the fourth quarter of this year.
In order for the first urban railway project to play its role as the "backbone" of the transport infrastructure system, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented a series of solutions to help passengers easily access metro line 1.
Specifically, in addition to adding 9 pedestrian bridges to connect the station, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing a project to increase accessibility and organize "collective" bus routes with an investment of about 93 billion VND.
According to Mr. Vo Duc Hung - supervising engineer of the Hong An - Saigon Traffic joint venture, the progress of implementing 5 parking lots along metro line 1 is going smoothly. At the construction site, the contractor always maintains 80 workers and operates nearly 20 specialized machines and equipment, speeding up the progress to complete 5 parking lots by next August.
"In case of rain and wind, when work cannot be done or workers cannot perform construction during the day, the contractor will organize night work and overtime to ensure the progress set with the investor," the supervising engineer shared.
In addition to the 5 parking lots, the investor also built new stops and parking lots for public vehicles with a total area of about 3,260m², at 2 locations near Van Thanh Park Station, Binh Thai. The project also includes 67 bus shelters, 196 bus stops at 11 locations near the stations and along both sides of the metro routes.
To effectively serve the connection of metro line 1, Ho Chi Minh City plans to open 22 new bus routes including 3 inter-provincial routes (connecting Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces) and 19 inner-city routes.
The newly opened bus routes have the function of collecting and releasing passengers at stations of metro line 1, operating in accordance with the operating time of the urban railway line.
Last February, the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center invited bids for 17 bus routes connecting to metro line 1.
