Overcoming difficulties, the "rear" of the DK1 platform soldiers from Ha Tinh has become a solid support for them to successfully complete their mission of protecting the Fatherland.
"This year marks 11 years since I joined the army, 9 of which were spent in the Navy. Of the three brothers in the family, only Cuong chose to follow his father's military career. He is small but he loves being a soldier on the rig...", those are the words shared by Mr. Nguyen Van Chan (born in 1963), father of Lieutenant Nguyen Van Cuong (born in 1994, Trung Tien village, Cam Trung commune, Cam Xuyen district), currently the Battery Captain at the DK1/9 rig.

Talking about his youngest son, Mr. Chan said that after finishing high school, Cuong boldly registered to join the military. In 2015, Cuong became a soldier of the Naval Region 2 Command and held many different positions. In November 2023, Nguyen Van Cuong officially became a soldier of the DK1 platform.

Over the past 11 years, although he has not had much time with his son, Mr. Chan is always proud that his son is holding a gun firmly on a remote island, steadfast and determined in his duty to protect the Fatherland.
"Although I understand that becoming a soldier on an oil rig at the forefront is full of thorns and challenges, I always remind my son that it is a noble mission to protect the sovereignty of the southern continental shelf of the Fatherland. There he will be trained and educated so that when he returns to the mainland, he will be more confident and steadfast," said Mr. Chan.

During Lieutenant Nguyen Van Cuong's leave last year, his family held an engagement ceremony and registered his marriage with his girlfriend. The two spent 10 years in love and had a happy ending when his wife gave birth to their first child in December 2023. To help her son work with peace of mind, Lieutenant Nguyen Van Cuong's mother traveled from Ha Tinh to Ho Chi Minh City to visit her daughter-in-law and help take care of her grandchild.
Ms. Le Thi Oanh - mother of Lieutenant Nguyen Van Cuong confided: "My husband used to be a soldier, so I am used to the absence of the breadwinner in the family. With the responsibility of a mother, I want to become a support for my daughter-in-law and grandchildren. I just hope that my son far away will "have strong legs and soft stones" to overcome hardships and complete his noble mission."
Understanding the great sacrifices of the home front, Lieutenant Nguyen Van Cuong has strived to complete the assigned mission, "firm in hand, steadfast in will". He shared: "Despite many difficulties and hardships, I am now very reassured because I have a great home front as a spiritual support so that I can work with peace of mind".
The cute boy is the sweet fruit of love between Ms. Vo Thi Tinh and Lieutenant Nguyen Tuan Anh.
Every time she watches the news about the rigs and sees the island soldiers standing strong against the wind and waves, Ms. Vo Thi Tinh (Thach Quy ward, Ha Tinh city) is extremely proud because her husband - professional soldier Lieutenant Nguyen Tuan Anh is also working far away at sea.
Ms. Tinh and Lieutenant Nguyen Tuan Anh (born in 1993, working at DK1/12 platform) have known each other since childhood. In 2022, after getting married, Ms. Tinh moved to Vung Tau to rent a room near her husband's military unit so that she could meet him more conveniently. The couple's small family welcomed great joy when Ms. Tinh learned that she was pregnant. At this time, her mother-in-law took her home to take care of her and her pregnancy until the day she gave birth.

"In June 2023, I had a difficult birth so I had to transfer to Hanoi at night. When I heard that the unit also created conditions for him to return to his mother and child for a while, he returned to the unit to train for the rig. At first, when the baby cried and slept in his mother's arms all night, I wished I had him to share and comfort. But then I thought, the hardships and deprivation on the mainland were nothing compared to those on the rig, so I tried to be steadfast, encourage, give strength, and be a support for my husband to work with peace of mind" - Ms. Tinh confided.
Mrs. Le Thi Thuy and her husband called to talk and encourage their son to work with peace of mind.
Not only Ms. Tinh, on the day her son received the order to go to the platform to perform his duty, Ms. Le Thi Thuy - Lieutenant Tuan Anh's mother also thought a lot. Before her son left, she also proactively learned about the platforms, knowing that previous generations had contributed to keep the platforms stable and the sovereignty of the sea and islands always protected. Therefore, she was excited, believing that her son would continue the tradition of the officers and soldiers of the platform.
Ms. Thuy expressed: "Each family member reminds each other to become a support for their son to work far away with peace of mind. On the mainland, the family always follows and supports their son to be steadfast, determined, and overcome difficulties to excellently complete the tasks assigned by the Fatherland."
