On November 10, information from the People's Committee of Hau Giang province said that it had just issued a decision approving the project "Developing green urban areas adapting to climate change in Nga Bay City".
Accordingly, the project will be implemented in 2023-2026, with a total investment of more than VND 1,200 billion from AFD loans, non-refundable ODA capital and local budget counterpart capital.
The investment project consists of four components: component A reduces flood risks; component B improves wastewater management and environmental sanitation; component C upgrades urban areas and develops public spaces; and component D provides technical support.
Accordingly, component A will invest in building a rainwater drainage system; building new embankments/dykes. Component B will invest in building a wastewater collection system; wastewater treatment and sludge management.
Component C focuses on upgrading the regulating lake (Xang Thoi Lake); creating landscape around Xang Thoi Lake (Pham Hung Green Infrastructure).
Meanwhile, component D provides technical support to enhance the capacity of agencies and units related to the project to exploit and use the project effectively and sustainably; Procure equipment for monitoring, warning and forecasting natural disaster risks, and management software.
Nga Bay City is 78km2 wide with a population of over 100,000 people, the second largest economic and social center of Hau Giang, after Vi Thanh City; an important waterway traffic hub in the Mekong Delta.
