Young school, rich in achievements
In recent years, the Hanoi education sector has recorded the appearance of a private school that is only 15 years old but has an enviable record of achievements.
Specifically, recently, at the selection of the Hanoi Team for the National Competition, for the first time a private school had students enter the team with 2 subjects: Math and Physics - Newton School had 4 students enter the Math team and 1 student enter the Physics team.
At the 2024 International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO 2024), Newston School had 9 students participating, excellently winning all 9 medals including 4 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals, 1 Bronze Medal, thereby leading the Vietnamese delegation in this competition.
In addition, Newton has also become a rare phenomenon at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) as the only private school to date with 2/6 candidates being selected to the official team to compete internationally in December 2024.
The outstanding achievements of Newton students at the prestigious international intellectual playgrounds mentioned above confirm that Newton is an "International Specialized" school - where students are given the best conditions for comprehensive development, including knowledge of specialized science subjects and computer skills, foreign languages, soft skills, etc., helping them adapt to the digital age.
The journey of building a school by a teacher who loves her job
Teacher Le Thi Bich Dung, Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Newton Inter-level High School, although nearly 70 years old, is still dedicated and devoted to the career of educating people.
Teacher Dung graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics of the University in 1981. In her youth, she spent 13 consecutive years as a lecturer teaching advanced mathematics and programming to students at the University of Mining and Geology.
After that, Ms. Dung went abroad, spent 12 years studying and working in a foreign country. With the desire to contribute to her homeland, Ms. Dung returned to Vietnam, using her knowledge and experience to start a business at a school established by a group of colleagues who all loved teaching - Newton Inter-level School.
Looking back on her 15-year journey at Newton School, Ms. Dung recalls 2008, calling it the most memorable milestone of her life when she met her old teacher Tran Van Nhung (former Deputy Minister of Education and Training).
“ Meeting the teacher again, sharing many memorable stories and also the desire to contribute to education. My love for the profession arose again, teacher Nhung oriented me to open a general school, nurturing the direction towards international education - innovation in education, to bring the good things from abroad to apply in Vietnam right from when students are still young, then it will be certain.
Teacher Le Thi Bich Dung.
From his advice, I officially returned to the education industry, founding Newton School with Mr. Tran Van Nhung as the head ," Ms. Dung recalled.
The first year the school recruited 3 high school classes, with a total of only 71 students, including 45 grade 10 students divided into 3 classes, each class had 15 students. There was 1 middle school class, 14 students, the rest were grade 1 classes with 11 students. A total of 70 students.
During the 5 years of renting facilities at the Aquatics Palace, at its peak the school had only 265 students. The school was only able to rent about 22 rooms, so the facilities were lacking and did not meet the standards for development.
“ We now have more than 8,400 students at four campuses ,” teacher Le Thi Bich Dung informed.
According to Ms. Dung, in order to build a good educational environment, we need to face the three most difficult factors: First is to create an environment to train students' qualities. Second is to have advanced teaching methods and finally, we must have full modern teaching equipment. The school must strive to create development in all three of these factors.
“ We always think about how to make our children obedient, understand their lessons, be fully equipped with learning tools and have fun going to school. We always think about innovation. Teaching methods are closely linked to the development of society.
Standing still means falling behind, so we must always research and grasp the development trends of society to be at the forefront, to strongly apply the scientific achievements of society to school teaching. In today's era, applying information technology to teaching is extremely important. All current lectures must be digitized ," said Ms. Dung.
Right from the beginning of the school's founding, teacher Le Thi Bich Dung gave the slogan for Newton school: " Every student is a future leader ", that was her deepest wish.
Imbued with core educational principles, nurturing and constantly thinking about the best educational environment for students, Ms. Dung always aims to build an inspiring school; where each teacher will be a great teacher, leading and passing on the flame of passion to students.
Students will live and learn with all the positive energy unleashed by the wonderful inspiration spread by teachers. That greatness can come from extremely simple and familiar things.
Facilities and educational activities are visible factors to identify the quality of a modern educational environment.
With her passion for her profession, along with the achievements of Newton School in contributing to innovation and creativity in education in recent years, in November 2023, teacher Le Thi Bich Dung was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Minister of Education and Training, a Certificate of Merit from the Hanoi Department of Education at the rare age of 65 in the education sector with the title of THST: "Dedicated and creative teacher".
The Newton Inter-level School System currently has 4 campuses with a total of 8,450 students, of which 4,550 are primary school students, 2,280 are secondary school students, and approximately 1,600 are high school students.
On September 18, Newton Inter-level School System started construction of facility 6 - Newton Westlake Inter-level School (Nam Thang Long Urban Area, Phu Thuong Ward, Tay Ho District).
The school includes 3 levels: preschool, primary school, secondary school, with a scale of about 1 hectare with the vision of being a modern, smart, quality international school, a symbol of innovation in the capital's education sector.
