The District Farmers’ Association also coordinated with Huong Lien Commune to guide the Chut ethnic people in growing shallots to develop the economy. This is also the first time the Chut ethnic people in Huong Lien Commune have produced a winter crop. The model of growing shallots in the winter carries the aspiration of the people to change their habits, diversify agricultural products and escape poverty sustainably.

Ms. Ho Thi Thanh, resident of Rao Tre village, Huong Lien commune, excitedly said: "Before, we did not cultivate, the land was left fallow, which was a waste. Now, with the guidance from the District Farmers' Association on growing chives in the winter, we are very excited, hoping that this model will help the Chut ethnic people escape poverty."

Ms. Ho Thi Kien - Head of Rao Tre village, Huong Lien commune, said: "I am very happy when the villagers bring hoes and shovels to the fields to learn the technique of growing chives guided by the Huong Khe District Farmers' Association. The Huong Khe District Farmers' Association has supported seeds, fertilizers and wholeheartedly guided us in growing chives, the villagers are very grateful to the Farmers' Association".

This winter crop, the Chut ethnic people will test-plant 1 sao of shallots, with all production costs supported by the Huong Khe District Farmers' Association and the Farmers' Support Center (Ha Tinh Province Farmers' Association). To help farmers grow shallots effectively, the Farmers' Association officers and Border Guard soldiers directly guided and guided farmers from soil improvement, bed making, fertilization, sowing, etc. During the production process, the units will monitor and guide farmers on techniques for caring for and harvesting shallots.

From the pilot model for the first crop, the Huong Khe District Farmers’ Association will evaluate its effectiveness for the coming years. The shallot product of the Chut ethnic group is expected to become a typical product, contributing to promoting it to tourists when Huong Khe District develops a community tourism model and experience in the coming time.

Speaking with Dan Viet reporter, Mr. Dinh Cong Tiu - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Huong Khe district, said: "In Rao Tre village, the Chut ethnic people have limited farming techniques, so many areas of agricultural land are still abandoned. The Standing Committee of the District Farmers' Association has mobilized the Chut ethnic people and the people of Huong Lien commune to encourage and propagate them to grow chives in the winter crop."

"This year, the profits from growing chives will be used to raise funds to support people in need. Next year, we will transfer land area and farming techniques to the Chut ethnic group to continue growing chives to develop the local economy," said Mr. Dinh Cong Tiu - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Huong Khe district.
