Sales data from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and TC Group (Hyundai car distributor) showed that in the first 6 months of 2024, the entire market sold 159,235 cars.
Note that the above figures only include member units of the VAMA Association and TC Group. In addition, many car manufacturers such as Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Volkswagen, Volvo do not publish business results information so they will not be included in the total.
In the first half of 2024, Hyundai led the market with 24,381 vehicles sold, accounting for 15% of the market share. Of which, the company's best-selling model is the Hyundai Accent B-class sedan with 4,988 vehicles sold. Hyundai's success is attributed to its models having eye-catching appearances, many amenities, and competitive prices in the segment.

Although it was number one in the same period last year, Japanese automaker Toyota is now in second place with sales of 22,338 vehicles in the first 6 months of 2024. The models that contributed the most to the company's revenue in the first 6 months of the year were Vios, Yaris Cross and Veloz. In addition, the launch of the new generation Toyota Hilux and Corolla Cross can also help the automaker attract customers' attention in the coming time.
Ford ranked third with 17,651 vehicles sold in the first 6 months of the year. The Ford Ranger pickup truck has become the "trump card" of the American car company and has maintained its leading position in sales in the segment for many consecutive years.
Mitsubishi and Kia are in a tight race, both selling over 14,000 vehicles in the first half of 2024. However, the Japanese automaker sold 600 more vehicles to help Mitsubishi climb to fourth place. Mitsubishi and Kia sold 14,622 and 14,007 vehicles in the first half of this year, respectively.
The remaining car brands in the ranking with high sales include Mazda (12,679 vehicles), Honda (10,481 vehicles), Thaco Truck (7,248 vehicles), Suzuki (6,359 vehicles), Isuzu (4,136 vehicles).
In addition to the leading car manufacturers in the Vietnamese market, VinFast has also announced its business results up to the end of June this year. According to data released by the Vietnamese car manufacturer, the company successfully delivered 12,058 cars in the second quarter, bringing the total global electric car sales in the first half of 2024 to 21,747 cars.
In fact, the domestic automobile market has recorded a positive recovery in the last months of the second quarter of 2024 as car manufacturers continuously launched discount programs and consecutive gift promotions.
At the same time, the Government's policy of reducing 50% of registration fees for domestically produced and assembled vehicles, which is likely to take effect from August 1, 2024, has helped many car manufacturers quickly proactively offer an additional 50% discount on registration fees for their products. This creates an opportunity for consumers to buy cars early, waiting until the policy is passed to register to enjoy double benefits.
