Scientific workshop "Evaluation of the location, historical and cultural value, and regional connection of Dun Mountain in the historical and cultural space of the national relic of Trieu Tuong Temple and Nguyen Dynasty relics in the area"

The workshop had 18 presentations by experts and scientists directly researching the historical, cultural, geological and geomorphological values of Dun Cave; the regional connection of Dun Mountain in the historical and cultural space of the national relic of Trieu Tuong Temple and Mausoleum, Nguyen Dynasty relics in the area; the work of preserving, promoting and developing the value of Dun Cave.

The experts' report shows that in Dun cave, many archaeological relics from different periods were discovered, all of which were pottery. After collecting 17 pieces of prehistoric pottery, scientists determined that they were all in a broken state, including 3 mouth pieces and 14 body pieces of two different types.

The outer type is dark gray/yellow gray; the ceramic bone is rough, dark gray, low firing temperature so the ceramic bone is quite friable; these may be relics from the late Neolithic period - early Metal period. The second type has a reddish brown surface mixed with a lot of milky white or dark brown sand, these may be relics from the pre-Dong Son - Dong Son period in the Ma River basin...

According to scientists, Dun Cave contains dual values of natural and cultural heritage. Dun Mountain has a close connection, located in the space of Trieu Tuong Mountain area - where Trieu Tuong Temple and Mausoleum National Monument is located.

This place contains relics and archaeological artifacts from both prehistoric and historical times, proving that many periods of time people used this cave as a temporary residence to avoid natural disasters, enemies or as a military base during historical wars.

In Dun cave there are many beautiful natural stalactites.

In addition, the richness, diversity, beauty and uniqueness of the stalactite system in the cave will be an attractive destination for tourists if preserved.

Dun Cave (also known as Dun Mountain Cave) located in Ha Long Commune, Ha Trung District (Thanh Hoa) was discovered by local people a long time ago. However, Dun Mountain Cave only really received attention when in April, a company in the process of mining stone discovered the cave entrance.

The cave is about 70m long, 50m wide and about 40m high; there are 4 entrances: East, West, South and North.

In fact, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa confirmed that this is a cave with an underground stream flowing inside and many beautiful natural stalactites that need to be preserved and promoted in association with local tourism development. The exploitation of stone at Dun Mountain will directly affect the cave (the cave will be filled and collapsed due to rolling rocks and landslides).

Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee then decided to temporarily suspend stone mining at Dun Mountain; assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, units, localities, and scientists to survey and comprehensively evaluate the scale, value, historical, cultural, heritage, and tourism significance of the caves at Dun Mountain.
