Today (October 16), many workers and machines were mobilized to cut down ancient pine trees on Hoang Van Thu - Nguyen Dinh Quan street in Da Lat city.
These are three-leaf pine trees, averaging 15m in height and about 47cm in diameter.
The city government informed that many pine trees were cut down to implement the project to upgrade and expand Hoang Van Thu Street, more than 1.2km long, with a total investment of about 138 billion VND.
During the implementation of the above project, 200 trees were affected. Of these, the government forced the felling of 148 trees (76 three-leaf pines, 62 orange-leafed sal trees and 10 miscellaneous trees), and relocated 52 purple phoenix trees and cherry blossoms.
In addition to the above project, the locality also expanded Le Hong Phong Street to 730m long, with an investment of more than 39 billion VND. To carry out the construction, the government will relocate and cut down 52 ostrich trees, 1 cherry tree, and 1 pơ mu tree.
For the large-sized trees of African origin, the Da Lat City People’s Committee proposed to cut down trees with rotten trunks and poor growth. As for the po mu and mai anh dao trees, they were identified as valuable trees, so the authorities proposed to move them to a temporary nursery for replanting.
It is known that the authorities have also planned to plant additional and replace 1,000 trees of various types upon completion of these projects.
