During their stay in Havana, the crews of the Russian warships took part in friendly events, including celebrations marking Russia Day. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel visited the frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan, the press office said.

After the Russian fleet arrived in Havana, the US deployed the submarine USS Helena to the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. The US naval base, located in the southeast of the island nation, about 1,000 km from the capital Havana, is considered illegally occupied territory by Cuba.
Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío criticized the presence of US submarines at Guantanamo Bay, saying it was unwelcome and uninvited.
As the Russian Defense Ministry reported earlier, the surface tactical group consisting of the destroyer Admiral Gorshkov and the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan practiced using high-precision weapons during drills in the Atlantic Ocean before docking in Havana.
The frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan are carriers of advanced precision strike weapons, in particular Tsirkon hypersonic missiles, Kalibr cruise missiles and Oniks anti-ship missiles.
