On the evening of July 1, Ha Nam Provincial Police announced that they had just busted a gambling den in the form of football betting and illegal storage of military weapons at Group 1 (Quang Trung Ward, Phu Ly City, Ha Nam Province).
In the case, Ha Nam Provincial Police arrested Nguyen Trung Hieu (40 years old, residing in Nam Dinh City, Nam Dinh Province), Tran Thi Hien Trang (31 years old, residing in Ly Nhan District, Ha Nam; Hieu's wife) and 2 other subjects.
Police searched the suspects' residences and case evidence.
During the search of the rented residence of Hieu and his wife in Quang Trung Ward, the police seized 2 military guns, 54 bullets, 1 car, 2 small scales, many tablets, powder suspected to be drugs, and many documents suspected to be fake.
Initially, Hieu and his wife confessed that they did not have stable jobs and that Hieu was also a drug addict. When the Euro 2024 European Football Championship began, Hieu and Trang bought a "football page" and invited and enticed a number of people to participate in betting to benefit together.
Police determined that since the beginning of the Euro 2024 season, Hieu and Trang have organized football betting for people with a total amount of more than 1.1 billion VND.
The Criminal Police Department of Ha Nam Province Police is expanding the investigation of the case to handle those involved according to regulations.
The Euro 2024 European Football Championship is attracting a large number of fans around the world and Vietnam to follow. This is also a condition for football betting crimes to operate in a complicated manner, so Ha Nam Provincial Police recommends that people need to fully understand the good values of football, watch football with a healthy entertainment mentality, not participate in football betting, or organize football betting in any form.
