On the afternoon of December 18, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City started the project to build Nguyen Trai Bridge and improve the surrounding urban area. This is one of the city's key projects in 2024.
Nguyen Trai Bridge is the 6th bridge of the city across the Cam River (after Kien Bridge, Binh Bridge, Hoang Van Thu Bridge, May Chai Bridge and Bach Dang Bridge) and is the 4th bridge leading to the new urban area North of Cam River.
Nguyen Trai Bridge has two 111 m high towers forming two sails reaching out to sea, symbolizing Hai Phong's aspiration to "reach the ocean".
Nguyen Trai Bridge project belongs to group A project, is a special traffic project, with a total investment of more than 6,200 billion VND, of which construction and installation cost is more than 4,200 billion VND, site clearance cost is more than 2,000 billion VND.
The area cleared for the construction of bridges and access roads is more than 21 hectares, in addition to reclaiming the surrounding area with an area of more than 43 hectares for urban beautification.
Nguyen Trai Bridge has 4 lanes for motor vehicles, designed as a cable-stayed bridge, the bridge section is nearly 1,500 m long, the middle span alone is 300 m wide, the widest compared to other bridges in Hai Phong, the two towers are 111 m high forming two sails reaching out to sea, symbolizing Hai Phong's aspiration to "reach the big sea".
The intersection connecting to Le Thanh Tong Street has modern architecture; Nguyen Trai Street is expanded from 18 m to 50.5 m, connecting to Le Hong Phong Street and Cat Bi International Airport.
Nguyen Trai Bridge, when completed and put into use, will help build a connecting axis between the existing urban area and the new urban area north of Cam River and industrial parks such as VSIP Industrial Park, Tam Hung - Ngu Lao, Thuy Nguyen...
At the same time, the project contributes to connecting Cat Bi International Airport with the northern development pole of the city in the North Cam River area, meeting the production and business development needs of enterprises, promoting the socio-economic development of Thuy Nguyen city in particular and Hai Phong city in general, as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of neighboring provinces and cities.
Thereby, creating favorable conditions for attracting FDI investment through connecting with Hai Phong International Gateway Port, Cat Bi International Airport, Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway, National Highway 10, National Highway 18...

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung said that in recent years, Hai Phong has been focusing on investing in expanding urban space to the North of Cam River. In 2017, the city started the project to invest in building technical infrastructure for the new urban area North of Cam River with a scale of more than 324 hectares, including the construction of Hoang Van Thu bridge across Cam River.
Next, the city will invest in building the City Political - Administrative Center and the City Conference - Performance Center in the above area. It is expected that in May 2025, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and other city agencies will move to the North Song Cam Political - Administrative Center to work.
In particular, on October 24, 2024, the National Assembly Standing Committee passed Resolution No. 1232 on the establishment of Thuy Nguyen city under Hai Phong city. Thus, the movement across the Cam River will increase dramatically in the near future.
Currently, there are only Binh Bridge and Hoang Van Thu Bridge, so they cannot meet the traffic demand. To ensure the need for more convenient and clear travel across Cam River, Hai Phong decided to invest in building Nguyen Trai Bridge.
The Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee requested contractors to focus human and material resources to build the project, with technical and aesthetic standards, and to ensure absolute labor safety. Strive to complete the project in 2027.
At the same time, the Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee requested the city's departments, branches and sectors and Ngo Quyen district to create the best conditions and immediately resolve difficulties and problems arising during the construction process, especially ensuring security and order during the construction process.
