At around 7:30 p.m., Hanoi experienced thunderstorms with lightning. During the torrential rain, hail appeared in some districts in Hanoi such as Nam Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Dong Anh, Gia Lam, My Duc, Chuong My, Ung Hoa...
In Trung Hoa ward (Nam Tu Liem district), people recorded sparse falling rocks, the size of chopsticks, melting quickly when hitting the ground.
In Dong Anh district, people also recorded hail appearing at around 8:30 a.m., lasting for more than 10 minutes and then stopping.
Many people in Chuong My district said that hail appeared in the areas of Nam Phuong Tien, Dong Lac, Dong Phu communes. The hailstones were small, about 2-3cm in diameter. The rain was accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms also caused some trees to fall on Quan Su, Trang Thi (Hoan Kiem district), and Quang Trung (Ha Dong district) streets.
Hanoi Green Parks Company is counting trees affected by thunderstorms, but there is no complete data yet.
According to rainfall data from the Hanoi Drainage Company, heavy rain fell on many districts of Hanoi within 30 minutes, from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The place with the heaviest rainfall was Ha Dong with 31mm, Nam Tu Liem 27mm, Cau Giay 20.7mm.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, through monitoring satellite cloud images, lightning location images and weather radar, convective clouds developed strongly over Phu Tho province from 7:30 p.m. and moved toward Hanoi, causing thunderstorms in many districts. By 9 p.m., the rain had eased in many places but could return at night.
Inner city and surrounding areas are likely to have moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall ranging from 40-70mm, some places over 90mm.
The Meteorological Center warned that this rain could cause flooding in many inner-city streets of Hanoi.
It is forecasted that tonight and tomorrow evening (April 21), the North will continue to have showers and thunderstorms, with some places having 20-40mm of rain.
