Hanoi sends message of environmental protection through the friendship bike ride |
On November 17 in Hanoi, the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HAUFO) in coordination with the People's Committee of Hai Ba Trung District organized the 4th "Friendship Bicycle Journey for a Green Hanoi". The 4th "Friendship Bicycle Journey for a Green Hanoi" program was held at Thong Nhat Park, Tran Nhan Tong Street and the streets around Thien Quang Lake.
This is an annual activity that is of interest and anticipated by many domestic and international friends.
This year's program has the participation of more than 300 delegates including Ambassadors, Charge d'Affaires, diplomatic officers at the Embassies of Laos, Palestine, Myanmar, Mexico...; representatives of international organizations, foreign non-governmental organizations; Central and Hanoi delegates; Hanoi Bicycle Club; Friendship Associations and member organizations of HAUFO.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ky, Chairman of HAUFO, said that the program was organized to promote the image of Hanoi Capital as “civilized - modern”, “city for peace”, green - clean - beautiful to international friends. At the same time, raise awareness of people living and working in the capital about preserving a green living environment, reducing air pollution through encouraging the use of environmentally friendly means of transport.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ky, the activity also contributes to enhancing friendly exchanges, introducing to international friends about the culture, country, and people of Vietnam, about the friendly and hospitable Hanoians, about the peaceful space around Thien Quang Lake, which is very suitable for having fun and relaxing on weekends.

Mr. Saadi Salama, Ambassador of the State of Palestine, Head of the Diplomatic Corps in Vietnam, said that the “Friendship Bicycle Journey for Green Hanoi” is a meaningful activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being awarded the title “City for Peace” by UNESCO, and the 5th anniversary of Hanoi joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Ambassador Saadi Salama appreciated HAUFO's idea of organizing the program, thereby encouraging people to use bicycles and green means of transport. "Cycling through the peaceful streets contributes to promoting the image of the thousand-year-old capital, giving us the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air together, immersing ourselves in the green space in the late autumn weather of Hanoi", said Ambassador Saadi Salama.
Mr. Juan Carlos Fernandes Juarez, Ambassador of Venezuela, and his two children participated in the cycling program. He said that the cool autumn weather and the green, clean and beautiful space around Thien Quang Lake helped his family have comfortable and relaxing moments. This experience also helped his two children, who are not passionate about physical exercise and sports, feel more interested in cycling. In the future, he will take his children cycling in many other areas around Hanoi, both to improve their health, contribute to environmental protection, and as an opportunity for them to explore the daily life of Vietnamese people.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee presented 10 bicycles to 10 disadvantaged students who have excelled in their studies in Hai Ba Trung District. This is a meaningful gift, timely and encouraging, motivating the students to continue to firmly step on the journey of overcoming difficulties, studying well, and becoming useful citizens for society.
