Fire victims complete procedures to receive support money from Thanh Xuan District on the morning of November 5.

According to Mr. Truong, when planning to allocate more than 132 billion VND in support for 144 victims, there was a surplus of 2.221 billion VND in support money. "Because this is a complicated case in terms of components and subjects, Thanh Xuan District agreed to leave 2.221 billion VND so that in case any problems arise related to the victims of the fire, there will be money immediately to continue to support," Mr. Truong affirmed.

Regarding the content of allocating donations to "handle arising issues, environmental sanitation, and prevent infectious diseases in the area where the fire occurred", Mr. Truong said that the drafting department quoted verbatim from Decree 93/2021/ND-CP, and did not say that VND2,221 billion would be used for environmental sanitation and prevent infectious diseases in this area. "This money will only be used to support the victims of the fire", Mr. Truong said.

Previously, on the night of September 12 and early morning of September 13, a 9-storey mini apartment building on Khuong Ha Street caught fire, killing 56 people and injuring 37 others. After the fire, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels in Hanoi received a total of more than VND132 billion from organizations and individuals and provided the first round of support to the families of the victims with a total amount of VND6.126 billion.

On the morning of November 5, Thanh Xuan District People's Committee organized the distribution of nearly 124 billion VND in support money to 144 victims.
