This morning (September 16), many schools in Hanoi suddenly announced that students could arrive at school later than usual due to sudden flooding in schools and some residential areas.

"Dear parents, due to the impact of the rain, the school gate and some residential areas are flooded. For teachers and students who come to school, the school will still organize in-person learning as usual.

Teachers and students who cannot come will be guided to study online. Currently, the weather is sunny, and if the water recedes, students will come to school as usual according to the schedule," Kim Giang Secondary School sent a message to all parents on enetViet.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung (Dai Kim urban area, Hoang Mai) said that at 6:45 he put on a raincoat to take his two children to school.

He was quite surprised because his alley, which was usually clear, was jammed early in the morning. On the main road, people were walking in a line on the sidewalk.

After more than 45 minutes, the three of them struggled to get 2km to school. He could not believe his eyes when the gate of his eldest daughter's middle school was flooded almost up to an adult's knees, and the school yard was also flooded. The road to his youngest son's elementary school was also submerged half a wheel deep.

"For nearly 10 years, my alley has never flooded. This morning, the water was up to half my calves, I was surprised. When I went to my children's school, I couldn't believe my eyes because after just one rain, the water was up to half a motorbike wheel. Luckily, the school is flexible so that the children can study both online and in person," said Mr. Dung.

This morning, some schools in Thanh Xuan district announced online learning. Students have come to school, and the school still maintains direct teaching.

Ms. Cam Van (Kim Giang, Thanh Xuan) said that this morning, her three children struggled to get to school.

After 7am, Phan Dinh Giot Secondary School announced that students would study online, while her young son, who studied at another school that was not flooded, continued to study in person. She was caught off guard because she had to change her plan to pick up and drop off her two children early Monday morning.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Thu Hien (Xa Dan collective housing area, Dong Da district) said that this morning she saw a stir in her child's class's Zalo group because the elementary school gate was flooded to the level of half a motorbike wheel.

Listening to the homeroom teacher, some parents let their children go home and wait to see if the water receded, some parents temporarily left their bikes on the sidewalk nearby and carried their children into school. "In general, today is the second day of instability due to the flooding," Ms. Hien shared.

"Just after the rain last night, the water around my house was knee-high, making it difficult for many parents to take their children to school," said Nguyen Thi Le, An Khanh urban area, Hoai Duc.

Up to now, the water in some schools and residential areas has gradually receded because the rain has stopped. Some schools continue to notify students that they are no longer flooded and that they will still pick up their children to school, even though they will be late.

According to some parents, it may be due to the recent flood, the water in the canals was too high, the drains were buried by rocks and soil because the flood had not been cleared yet. Therefore, just one rain caused the water to rise very quickly.

It is known that due to the recent flood, hundreds of schools in Hanoi were unable to teach. Statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training on September 13 showed that the entire city still had 153 schools that could not welcome students to school in person.

Of these, there are 44 kindergartens, 53 primary schools, 40 secondary schools, 16 high schools, 1 vocational education - continuing education center and 1 school under the Department of Education and Training.
