In recent times, Hanoi has always paid attention to ensuring food safety (FS) in schools. In particular, the inspection and supervision of school kitchens has always been promoted. The goal is that 100% ofeducational institutions will be inspected and supervised according to regulations; specifically, in 2023, 84.5% of the facilities will be inspected.
However, in the school gate area, checking and controlling street food and street vendors still faces many difficulties.
Faced with that reality, from the beginning of August 2024, Hanoi began organizing inspection teams to inspect food safety in schools, not only focusing on collective kitchens in schools but also targeting food businesses in areas near schools...
Head of the Hanoi Food Safety and Hygiene Department Dang Thanh Phong said that from August 2024 to the end of August 2025, the whole city will focus on ensuring food safety inside and outside schools. Hanoi will review educational facilities, collective kitchens, and school canteens under its management.
Kitchens at schools are strictly controlled in terms of origin and food processing to ensure safety for teachers and students. Along with that, food services in front of and around schools need to be monitored and inspected by local authorities to ensure food safety.
On the other hand, the authorities investigate and check food service establishments, street food establishments, and grocery stores that sell prepackaged foods and ready-to-eat processed foods according to each industry and food item around schools.
The city pays special attention to spontaneous stalls and street vendors around school gates because with these stalls, the unclear origin of food will lead to the risk of harming the health of students...
In particular, the work of checking, monitoring and tracing the origin of food in and around the school gate will be carried out seriously and regularly; organizations and individuals violating food safety regulations will be strictly handled.
In addition, recently, the city has inspected, monitored, and traced the origin of food at 19 food service establishments in the airport area in the city, of which 12 establishments passed, and rapid testing achieved 190/190 samples.
Previously, the Hanoi People's Committee issued a Plan on the peak of food safety communication in Hanoi for the period 2024 - 2025 to create substantial changes in the awareness and actions of subjects including: consumers, managers, producers, processors, and food traders.
In the key task of November 2024, the health sector continues to inspect, supervise and carry out professional activities to ensure food safety in the management field.
