According to Neowin , some users of Google's cloud-based storage service have reported that their files have mysteriously disappeared over the past few days. Some users have posted about their issues with the service on the company's support forum.
Google is investigating an issue with lost Drive files
One of the affected people from South Korea said: "Hello, my Drive files suddenly disappeared. Data from May 2023 until today is gone and the folder structure is back to the state in May. Drive activity does not show any changes (only shows activity in May). No files were manually deleted so there are no files in Trash. I have never synced or shared my files and drives with anyone, I use local drives."
The person reported the issues to Google support. So far, several attempts to recover the files, including using recovery software, have been unsuccessful. Similar messages have been posted by several other Google Drive users.
So far, the issue appears to only affect Google Drive customers accessing the service on the desktop app. It doesn't appear to affect those using the Drive website or its mobile apps.
The latest update on the issue on the support forums, which is said to come from a Google team member, was posted with the statement: "As of this morning, we know that the relevant project engineers are working to understand the root cause before they can provide a fix. As per feedback, do not make any changes to the root folder for Drive. Hopefully we will have a solution this week."
