Teachers refuse to go to school, thousands of students have to temporarily stop going to school

On March 18, nearly 1,400 students at the American International School (Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City) had to stay home from school because most of the school's teachers and lecturers refused to go to school due to unpaid wages and insurance.

Previously, in September 2023, many parents gathered in front of the school gate of the American International School to demand "tuition" contributions of billions of dong.

According to an anonymous parent whose child is studying at the school, yesterday (March 17), Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, President of the American International School Board, held a meeting with all parents about the school's financial and personnel issues. According to the minutes of the meeting, the school's Board of Directors said that about 95% of the school's teachers are still owed salaries and insurance and refuse to go to school. Therefore, the school will let students take a day off on March 18 because they will have difficulty going to school under such conditions.

The meeting also confirmed that it was not feasible to call on and mobilize parents to contribute more tuition fees to help the school overcome its financial difficulties. However, a parent, Mr. LAT, said that he could invest 200 billion VND from an investment fund for the school in exchange for owning about 20% of the school's shares.

It is known that Ms. Ut Em will have an announcement about this and the percentage of the school's shares tomorrow (March 19).

At the meeting, many parents said that this is a feasible solution that can solve the current difficulties of the school. In addition, the minutes of the meeting between parents and the school also concluded that by March 21 at the latest, the school will have a solution to solve the current difficulties.

The American International School, whose full name is American International School Vietnam, was established in 2006. Statistics show that at the end of 2023, the school had about 1,400 students, from kindergarten to grade 12. The school also has hundreds of foreign teachers along with hundreds of domestic teachers and staff. This is also one of the schools with the highest tuition fees in Ho Chi Minh City, ranging from 280 to 720 million VND/school year, depending on the level of study.
