The monthly income of preschool teachers in the plains ranges from 7-15 million VND, while teachers in mountainous areas with 18 years of experience in difficult areas receive about 20 million VND.
Sharing with VietNamNet, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ngan - Principal of Ngoi Sao Xanh Kindergarten (Hanoi) said that at this private school, "hard-working" teachers who have worked for many years have an income of 11-12 million/month, including the main class salary of about 10 million, attendance allowance, number of students, insurance regime...
According to Ms. Ngan, at private schools, each unit has a different policy and this is an agreement between the school and the employee.
For teachers working from the second year onwards, the monthly salary is about 8 million VND; in addition, there is a 300,000 VND lunch allowance, 30,000 VND lunch allowance x 22 days, and an allowance for diligent students of 200-300,000 VND. In addition, if the school's regulation is 15 students per class while the actual number is 17, the teacher receives an additional 100,000 VND/student/month, which means the total income is about more than 9 million VND. Each year, the teachers get an increase of 300-500,000 VND, depending on the person. Newly graduated teachers have an income of about 7-7.5 million VND.
"In general, preschool teachers' income comes from salary and allowances, and there is no extra teaching, so it is basically quite difficult to maintain life in a big city. In fact, at my school, teachers have to do many extra jobs such as selling online, cooking food to sell in apartments...", Ms. Ngan said.
Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Bich, Principal of 10/10 Kindergarten (Hanoi) said that at this school, the teacher with the highest income is 17-18 million with 32 years of experience, including allowances for boarding care, breakfast support, and working on Saturdays. The lowest income for a new teacher is about 7 million VND.
Ms. Vu Ngoc Du, Principal of Anh Sao Kindergarten (Hanoi) informed that newly graduated teachers with a basic salary of 2.14 x 2.340 million plus 35% of professional allowance have an income of about 6 million/month.
According to Ms. Du, teachers receive an additional 5% seniority allowance after every 5 years in the profession (increasing by 1% each year). At the school, the person with the highest level of 4.98 x 2340 plus 35% of the professional allowance earns about 15 million. Currently, preschool teachers are receiving the lowest salary, and their income is also lower than other levels (because they do not teach extra classes according to parents' needs). Meanwhile, the work intensity is high, and the working hours are longer than the regulations (sometimes up to 10 hours/day).
"In fact, current income has improved a lot compared to before, but compared to the social average, it is still low, so many preschool teachers have to sell goods, sew, design toys... to increase their income. I just hope there will be preferential treatment for preschool teachers so that they feel more cared for and have less hardship...", Ms. Du said.
In mountainous and disadvantaged areas, Ms. Ngo Thi Mai, Principal of Tan Lap Kindergarten (Bac Quang, Ha Giang) said that currently the teacher with the highest income at the school is 19 million/month with 18 years of work experience; the lowest is a newly graduated teacher with 11.5 million/month.
“My school is in region 3, the teacher with the highest income is paid based on an income coefficient of 3.66; position allowance of 0.35; seniority allowance of 0.68; attraction allowance: 2.8. In addition, there is a regional coefficient and a preferential coefficient. All coefficients added together are 10.806 million x 1.8 million (basic salary coefficient) = 19.450 million VND, excluding insurance.
The lowest-income teacher plus coefficient 6.684 million (salary coefficient, seniority, incentives, long-term) x 1.8 million = 12.031 million, with 11 years of work.
Currently, teachers at my school still receive salaries from a particularly difficult economic zone (zone 3), but when they are recognized as new rural areas, their salaries will return to the coefficient of zone 1. Thus, the teacher with the highest salary will have the coefficients deducted, from more than 19 million to less than 13 million," said Ms. Mai.
According to this female principal, the salary for teachers in difficult areas seems high, but there are people who travel 80km every day, the cost of gas and car repairs is not small, not to mention the difficult roads make traveling very difficult.
"If the salary is too low, disadvantaged areas will not be able to attract seconded teachers, causing difficulties for schools when assigning teachers to teach classes," Ms. Mai said.
