Continuing education in Hanoi has changed dramatically in quality and quantity.

In the 2023-2024 school year, the Hanoi City Continuing Education Network includes: 29 vocational education - continuing education centers (GDNN - GDTX), 53 secondary schools and colleges that combine general education with vocational training; 579 community learning centers, 912 IT and foreign language centers and 95 skill training centers.

The number of students in the Continuing Education program at the junior high school level is over 1,700 students, and the number of students in the Continuing Education program at the high school level is over 51,000 students (including students studying at vocational education and continuing education centers and colleges). The characteristic of the staff at vocational education and continuing education centers is the low rate of permanent teachers, mainly contract teachers.

With the spirit of determination to overcome difficulties and actively innovate in the organization and management of the unit, the training and learning results of GDTX students have gradually improved; the number of students with good training results and excellent learning has reached a high rate.

In the 2023-2024 school year, 20 teachers participated in the competition for excellent teachers of the Continuing Education Program at the high school level; as a result, 5 teachers won first prize. In the competition to select excellent students in cultural subjects of the Continuing Education Program at the high school level, nearly 1,000 students participated and many students won high prizes.

To promote the achieved results, in the 2024-2025 school year, the Hanoi Continuing Education sector has set out 7 key tasks; including promoting activities to build a learning society; paying attention to organizing the Lifelong Learning Response Week, Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day; evaluating and recognizing Learning Units and Learning Communities; strengthening the direction and completion of the network of Continuing Education facilities; improving the quality of management staff and collaborators; mobilizing resources for Continuing Education; promoting the application of IT and digital transformation in the management and administration of Continuing Education facilities; deploying digital transcripts, improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning in the digital environment. In particular, Continuing Education is the sector leading the implementation of the plan to bring Hanoi to join the UNESCO network of Learning Cities.

At the conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year organized by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training on the morning of August 15, many recommendations from preschool education centers - continuing education centers and vocational training institutions were made regarding the financial autonomy mechanism; tuition fee collection standards; lack of teachers; focusing on emulation and rewards; early announcement of the format structure, high school graduation exam question bank according to the new program as well as the 2025 high school graduation regulations; promoting communication programs about the vocational school system to raise awareness among parents and society. In addition, many units proposed transferring continuing education units to the Department of Education and Training for convenience and suitability in professional management and direction.

Highly appreciating the admirable and proud results and efforts of the Hanoi Continuing Education sector in the past school year, Deputy Head of the Department of Continuing Education (Ministry of Education and Training) Vu Thi Tu Anh hopes that the Hanoi Continuing Education sector will continue to promote the achievements in the coming school year. Regarding the Graduation Regulations and the format of the graduation exam in 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will soon issue them; regarding the issue of defining the professional titles of the Continuing Education sector, the Continuing Education Department is coordinating with the Department of Teachers to review and include them in the 2025 work program. With the linkage of cultural teaching, Continuing Education units need to properly research and review and promptly advise the Department to have a fundamental and methodical assessment in the new school year, ensuring the quality of Continuing Education.

Concluding the conference, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong shared with the continuing education sector and said that in the near future, he will advise and propose to the City People's Committee to review, adjust and perfect the planning and management of the continuing education system.

The Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training noted that the Continuing Education sector should pay attention to and review the conditions of facilities and teaching equipment to ensure security and safety for students before the new school year 2024 - 2025; at the same time, he said that he will continue to pay attention to training and developing the teaching staff, actively implementing tasks, and soon putting the amended Law on the Capital into life...
