The 2024 Taiwan Open Athletics Championships will take place from May 30 to June 3. Vietnamese athletics will participate with a focus on the women's 4x400m relay team, aiming to improve their performance to compete for an official spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Athletes compete in the women's 4x400m relay on the evening of June 2. The runners in starting order are Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Quach Thi Lan, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, Nguyen Thi Hang.

The Vietnamese runners outperformed their opponents. At the finish line, the Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team finished first with a time of 3 minutes 31.88 seconds, setting a new record at the tournament in Taiwan (China).
The silver medal in this event went to four young Chinese athletes Liu Chenyu, Chen Yi, Liao Zihan and Liu Yanjin with a time of 3 minutes 41 seconds 69.
However, this parameter is not enough to help the Vietnamese girls win a ticket to the 2024 Olympics. To win a ticket to the Paris Olympics, the Vietnamese women's team must compete with the world's 16th-ranked team, Nigeria (with a score of 3 minutes 27.29 seconds) and the world's 15th-ranked team, Cuba (with a score of 3 minutes 26.08 seconds).
The Taiwan Open is a tournament under the World Athletics system, so the athletes' achievements are Olympic standards.
In the men's 5,000m event, Nguyen Trung Cuong competed with 7 other athletes from Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore and two athletes from host Taiwan.
The runner from Ha Tinh did not have much difficulty to finish first with a time of 14 minutes 18 seconds 03, far surpassing his second-place opponent Syianturi Robi (Indonesia, 14 minutes 25 seconds 57). However, this figure was not enough to help Trung Cuong get a place at the 2024 Olympics.
